The events are described in Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Acts & 1 Corinthians.

In the past 2000 years, no one has been able to provide a cogent summary of these events without either skipping events, fudging details, or ignoring particular accounts.

Can you meld together a summary that doesn't contradict any of the scriptures?

ROOSEVELTQ:
When one is quoting from a variety of sources to describe a single event, "summarize in detail" is not an oxymoron.
It simply means to take all the accounts and create a single narrative that describes of the event. It may also try to show and explain the variations between the various tellings of the story.

The very first folks seemed to believe that if they did what Jesus taught, they would go to Heaven. So their theme was:

1. If you hurt me, I will forgive you
2. If I have hurt you or offended you, I am sorry.
3. If I live a harmony-loving life, I will go to Heaven.

Then along came Paul. He claimed he saw a hologram of Jesus, and that Jesus had made him the messenger to explain the purpose of Jesus on this earth.

Well, Paul's message was a lot easier than Jesus' message:

1. You could still hold a grudge
2. You could still hurt people, and offend people
3. And, you didn't have to follow the law
4. And, if you were a Gentile, you didn't have to be circumcized.

Well, like the remote control on our TVs, we tend to proclive toward what is easier, - (and less painful)

Please understand that the four gospel accounts were written by four different witnesses; therefore, there will be variations in the accounts. These do not constitute contradicts, just different points of view on the same events. It is like sending four reporters to report on the same event---you will get four different stories, but all will be valid. If you put them all together you will get a complete picture. However, it will be very difficult to combine ALL the stories into one and have a readable account; therefore, some material will have to be excluded. What you ask has been done with the four gospel accounts, but some of the verses had to be sacrificed in order to make the manuscript readable. There is redundancy among the accounts.

Well since the bible was edited and basically screwed with for control purposes, it would be hard to get any accurate account of events.

I'm glad for the discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls and other writings that help piece together what is missing in the bible.

You know what they say about eye witness accounts... everyone is going have a totally different view. They've tested this in studies. People remember all sorts of things that didn't actually happen!

yeah, but, Do U realize how much space & time that would require?
Plus, ya gotta remember that there is more then 1 eyewitness account. So, just like 4 ppl @ an intersection, all see the same accident; but, each has a different view, ppl speak in mannerisms (often), 1 may be a fisherman, 1 a tax collector, 1 a physican, etc... a lettered man would speak & write different, then oh, say, a fisherman.

I don't have it all memorized and this will contain errors, but I'll do the best to my ability.

By the way, I don't know where you got "no one" in 2000 years fact, but I highly doubt that.

1) The women (Mary, Mary, others) go to the tomb and find that Jesus is not there. Two angels, one acting as the spokeperson, says that He is gone.

2) The women run to the disciples to tell them the news.

3) John and Peter run to the tomb. John arrives first, but Peter enters first. They both see the burial cloths, but Jesus is not there.

4) Hmm...I've already lost my series of events and my details. Anyway, Jesus appears to Mary Magdalene when she later returns. He always appears to two disiples, to most of the original disciples (minus Thomas and, of course, Judas Iscariot), to the disciples again, to James and to over 500 and I cannot remember to whom else.

5) Jesus ascends into heaven.

6) Jesus appears to Saul.

Sorry, I tried. But its kind of like asking someone who wants to tell you why WWI happened, "Can you tell me the exact years and reasons the alliances were created, who they were signed by and for what reasons?" Its nice to have that knowledge, but its rote memorization that misses the purpose.

Acts 1:3 - Jesus presented Himself alive by many infallible proofs for a period of forty days. His appearances are the most important evidence to consider. Consider the evidence.

A list of the appearances
* Mary Magdalene - John 20:11-18; Mark 16:9-11 (note the other disciples did not believe her)

* Other women - Matthew 28:9,10 - They saw, touched, and heard Him.

* Two disciples on the road to Emmaus - Luke 24:13-35; Mark 16:12,13 - They saw and heard Him for a prolonged period. Again, the others did not believe them.

* Peter - Luke 24:34 (1 Cor. 15:5)

* All the apostles - He appeared to them on several occasions: Luke 24:36-43 - note that they saw, heard, and touched Him for prolonged periods; He ate in their presence. Again, they were skeptical and demanded proof. Mark 16:14-18; Matt. 28:16,17; John 20:19-23; 21:1-25; Acts 1:3-8; 10:39,41; 1 Cor. 15:5,7

* Thomas with the apostles - John 20:24-29 - He was skeptical till He saw, heard, and touched Jesus, including the wounds.

* Saul of Tarsus - Acts 9:1-9; 22:4-15; 26:9-18; 1 Cor. 15:8,9 - He was an enemy and persecutor. At noon on an open highway, a light brighter than the noon sun appeared. Jesus spoke and identified Himself to be Jesus. Saul saw and heard Jesus to qualify him to be a witness of what he had seen and heard (i.e., an apostle - 22:14,15; 26:16). He was struck blind till Ananias came and restored his sight (9:8,9,18; 22:11-13).

* 1 Corinthians 15:3-8 - A summary list that adds James and an appearance to over 500 at one time, most of whom were still alive when Paul wrote.

* Jesus then ascended to heaven in the presence of the apostles - Acts 1:9-11; Luke 24:50-53; Mark 16:19,20.

Then the apostles preached repeatedly that they were eyewitnesses of these events - Acts 1:22; 2:32; 3:15; 4:33; 10:39-41; 13:30-32; 22:14,15; 26:16; 1 Cor. 15:3-8,15. All were persecuted and most gave their lives for this testimony, but none ever withdrew it, denied it, or retracted it.

Other people were raised and appeared to people when Jesus arose - Matt. 27:52,53

* The appearances of the angels who announced the resurrection - Matthew 28:1-8; Mark 16:5-7; Luke 24:4-7. These appearances themselves were miraculous, yet they accompanied Jesus' resurrection and announced it.

* The Day of Pentecost - Acts 2:1-4,24,30-33 - The first time the apostles preached the resurrection, their message was confirmed when the Holy Spirit miraculously empowered them to speak many languages (tongues) they had never learned. They claimed that their ability to do this miracle proved Jesus had been raised (vv 32,33).

* The healing of the lame man - Acts 3:1-10,15; 4:10,14,16 - Peter and John instantaneously healed a man who had never walked in his forty years of life (4:22). Even their enemies had to admit the validity of this miracle. But the apostles used this miracle to confirm their testimony as witnesses of the resurrection.

* Appearances to Saul - When Jesus appeared, the light Saul saw was brighter than the noonday sun (Acts 26:13). Others saw the light and heard the voice but did not understand it (9:7: 22:9). Saul was struck blind till Ananias came and restored his sight (9:8,9,18; 22:11-13). These additional miracles confirmed to Saul and to others the reality of Jesus' appearance.

The purpose of miracles was to confirm a message/messenger to be from God Jesus and His apostles did many other miracles to confirm that their message was from God. The above miracles specifically confirmed the resurrection to be a miracle from God. Hence, miracles confirmed other miracles!

Each person must reach his own decision. To benefit from the resurrection, each person must:

* Hear the message about Jesus and His resurrection - Acts 13:37-39 (2:32,36-41).

* Believe in Jesus and the resurrection (and confess) - Romans 10:9,10; (Acts 2:32-39; 13:30-39; 1 Peter 1:21; Colossians 2:12).

* Repent of sins - Acts 2:32-39.

* Be baptized into Christ's death and resurrection - Romans 6:3-5; Colossians 2:12; 1 Peter 3:21 (Acts 2:32-39).

* Live a life of faithful obedience - 2 Corinthians 5:15; Colossians 3:1.

This response will lead to the promised inheritance of eternal life based on Jesus' resurrection - 1 Peter 1:3 (1 Cor. 15:12-23).
