stop saying that the Bible contradicts itself?
*******************************************************************
Yes, the Bible has a few very "minor" contradictions. Like how many years a king ruled or something like that.
And the VAST majority of supposed contradictions are simply taken out of context. Such as the list at sketpics annotated website.
However, the Bible NEVER contradicts itself THEOLOGICALLY. Meaning that the Bible is always talking about the SAME God and the character of this God never contradicts himself. Meaning the question of WHO is GOD is consistent throughout the Bible.

TO MeatBot,
I demonstrated on those questions you had that the Bible does not contradict itself in those instances. If you would like me to comment on other questions send me an email.

BTW,
Out of context is a valid arguement. I am annoyed by Christians that use this terminology as well but not when they use it appropiately and not when they demonstrate what the context is.
One of my pet peeves is when someone says "out of context" but fails to describe what the appropaite context is.

I said the Bible NEVER contradicts itself THEOLOGICALLY.
Yes I understand that "minor" contradictions are still contradictions but they are very few.
And Tucking Fypos or whatever your name is PLEASE do not provide a list of "supposed" contradictions. I have seen them many times. And can demonstrate why each one of them are not contradictions (or at least for the VAST majority), if you want me to respond please EMAIL me, and we will take one at a time.

God is the same in NT and OT. Though I can understand why you might feel that way. Yet the NT also speaks of God's Wrath as well.

I am a non-believer and I agree with your proposition that many of the most popular excerpts cited as biblical contradictions are indeed quoted out of context. Studied closely, and taken on the whole, the bible is as internally coherent as many other mythologies.
I hope this makes you feel better. I suppose some of us may hold Christian mythology to a higher standard than, say, the Iliad because we don't spill much blood or treasure on the altar of Apollo these days.

Can you show me how these two separate scriptures tracing Jesus' lineage from Joseph back to David make Jesus a descendent of David at all. As a matter of fact, have you read Luke 3 and Matthew 1? They don't even agree on who Joseph's father was, let alone address the fact that Jesus could not be a descendent of David through Joseph unless Joseph was God. Check it out:
Luke 3: 23 And Jesus at this time was about thirty years old, being the son of Joseph, the son of Heli,
3:24 The son of Matthat, the son of Levi, the son of Melchi, the son of Jannai, the son of Joseph,
Matthew 1:15 And Eliud had Eleazar; and Eleazar had Matthan; and Matthan had Jacob;
1:16 And the son of Jacob was Joseph the husband of Mary, who gave birth to Jesus, whose name is Christ.
If this isn't a blatant contradiction, well, I'd like for you to define contradiction.

You are living proof that every christian is a walking contradiction.
If you believe in something that doesn't make sense.... what does that say about you?
How does god not contradict himself??? In the OT he was basically a bully!! Flooding the earth, demanding that non-virgins be stoned to death if the husband marries them & finds they are not virgins...... The god from OT to NT changes so drastically...... How can anyone believe in any of this crap? They changed the CHARACTER of god to appeal to a wider audience...... Just like they would change a character in a TV show if that character caused the ratings to plummet.
The bible is a contradiction in itself and you are too gullible to see otherwise.
To answer your question..... no matter how many times you say it does not contradict itself there will always be a person who is smart enough to tell you otherwise. It won't stop unless you stop trying to convince everyone else that your book of fallacies is true.

The Bible does contradict itself in numerous places. Despite the great contortions of the apologists, there are enough contradictions to flatly reject the doctrine of literalism.
Even the character of God changes. He is a god of air and lightning akin to Zeus in the earliest passages found in the Song of Deborah and Psalms. His character changes throughout the Old Testament, becoming more abstract and less jealous and vengeful. The New Testament is a radical shift.

The problem isn't self-contradiction. The problem is that the God the Bible describes behaves like an evil, manipulative, angry, jealous jackass. The Bible promotes immoral behavior, like slaveholding, wifebeating, genocide, the death penalty, etc. Who cares about some minor contradictions? The Bible isn't worth following as a moral or theological guide because of what's in it.

First you say it doesn't have contradictions... then you say it does. Does it? Or doesn't it?
Maybe this is why we say there are.... you contradict yourselves often enough by using the Bible to support a specific belief... but when someone shows you verses that state otherwise, instead of DISCUSSING it... you say things like this. Which sounds more like whining because you can't battle what contradictions are brought forth.

Actually, I disagree. The deity of the OT and the NT behaves very differently and those behaviors are different than those we observe today. The character of the deity contradicts itself several times, if you take the stance that the deity can't change or come to new understandings.

Even if what you claim were true (which it isn't, there are numerous inconsistencies in the Bible), consistency is not the same thing as validity.
Novels are usually consistent in that the story lines and themes don't contradict one another, but they're still fiction.

Actually, the only thing that I am pondering about in the bible is about eating pork... The first testament mentioned not to eat pork. Yet when I ask people of the Christian faith, all they tell me is that the first testament doesn't count... huh!???
I thought the bible consisted of both testaments... the old and the new... does the society of today's Christian faith create man-made laws to suit their needs?

the bible is filled with contradictions because it was written by men which is why it should be held as more of a creation story than something to base your life on.
