It is ok, but it is suggested that you should do some sort of physical activity everyday. If you are just sitting around all day on your off days, that isnt helpful. On your off days, you could do something as simple as taking a walk around your neighborhood, go shopping at a nearby mall, or do some housecleaning. Sedentary lifestyles is what got Americans to be the biggest nation, we are supposed to be somewhat active everyday, doesn't mean you have to break a sweat everyday, just don't be sitting around all day...

You are only supposed to work out every other day or around 3 times a week for a half hour or so. So skipping days is greatly encouraged!

If you are out of shape, its preferable to do some aerobic and some weight lifting exercises each 3 times a week. You can work up to 6-7 times a week, as professional athletes do, if you alternate [abs one day, arms another, legs another; walk, dance, run or swim different days ] as you get stronger.

Yup...you should take days off from exercising to allow muscles to recover. If you work your upper body one day, you can work your lower body the next day (each muscle group would still be given a chance to recover).

If you do cardio/run, it's a good idea to do it every other day or at least take a couple of days off each week to recover.
