I wanna rent a 125cc scooter and drive to the shetlands and back via Orkneys. Is it a good idea as i've planned a route and a pace etc. Where can i rent a scooter in the north of england or scotland to do so as i live in London and cant be bothered transporting my ped up there. Thinking of going in the summer.

Sounds like great fun. I've cycled much of the route and the sceneray and people are wonderful, I'm sure you'll have a great time.

Depending which of the Shetland and Orkney Islands you want to visit, getting around can be time consuming with only one or two ferries a week to the smaller islands. Might be worth checking sailings with CalMac http://www.calmac.co.uk/

As for where to rent a scooter - don't know but if you drive up through the Peaks, Dales and Lakes you can start your holiday within a few hours of leaving London and save yourself a lot of hassle and some cash as well.
