Are you NOT the parent? What could a 14 year old talk about in 5 hours. Does she have good grades -- I don't see how if she talks that long on the phone? Stop trying to be her buddy and start being her parent.
If she wants to talk on the phone, then get her one of the "pre-paid" phones and give her only 500 minutes per month. If she uses it all up in 2 nights, then tough luck on her part. If she wants more minutes then make her pay for it -- kinda tough to get a job at 14 years of age. If mommy and daddy give their daughter everything then the girl will never learn to appreciate what she has because EVERYTHING was handed to her on a silver platter.

if it is a regular local land line call, it doenst matter how long you talk, the call will cost the same.
the reason you need to get her off the phone isnt for the sake of the bill, it is because a 14 yr old should have better, more activ things to do than sit on a phone for 5 hours.

yes, if it is racking up your fone bill, then you should set a time limit, if she normallytlks for like 5 hours a day, then cut her down to only an hour a day, and after she starts folliwing the rule about the 1hour fone time, then gradually increase her time by 15 mins, but dont let it get anywhere above 2 1/2 hours =P
in her spare time, you cn get her involved in after school activities, if that is possible. like art club, drama, volleyball, basketball, softball, track, anything that you think she may be interested in, she will have a great time with it and keep her busy, inshape, and according to polls, she will be most likely to use drugs if she is involved in more after school activities. You can also tryin spending more time with her, a mother daughter relationship is something you should treasure and even if its like going out for lunch, or exercising in the living room, either way, yo uand her will be spending quality time together, try shopping, but dont spend too much =P
well, best of luck to you!

Limit phone use to half an hour a day. If she want to talk longer, she has to buy a pre paid cell phone and buy her own minutes. If hse goes over her minutes at home, check the bill and make her pay a dime for each minute she goes over. This is what my parents did to me when I was a teen and I tell you what it worked quite well. Tough love is the best love sometimes. Good luck.

This is really one of the easiest question I have ever read. YES put a time limit on the phone use and very very short time limit. She is ONLY 14 and you are paying the bills Step up and be her parent.

YES! She will not LEARN anything if you just continue to let her do this!
If she wants to talk on the phone for hours, make her get her own phone and pay for it out of her allowance until she can get a job!
Teach her how to be responsible and grateful.

YES. Set a time limit of how long she is allowed to be on the phone. 30 minutes at a time is perfectly appropriate. Remember: you're the parent and you set the rules. What you say goes.

girls at this age love to chat on the phone. it is so much fun for them. but over 5 hrs. is quite some time. u can allow it it once or twice a week, but everyday is too much, considering that sometimes they get bored & just start humming. u have to do something about before it becomes a big habit.
