I lost my Father in Jan. 2006 and looked for poetry and words of wisdom to comfort me.
This poem has always been a fave of mine:
Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there, I do not sleep.
(1) I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glint on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.
(2) When you wake in the morning hush,
I am the swift, uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circling flight.
I am the soft starlight at night.
Do not stand at my grave and weep.
I am not there, I do not sleep.
(Do not stand at my grave and cry.
I am not there, I did not die!)
Do not stand at my grave and weep.
I am not there, I do not sleep.
(3) I am the song that will never end.
I am the love of family and friend.
I am the child who has come to rest
In the arms of the Father who knows him best.
(4) When you see the sunset fair,
I am the scented evening air.
I am the joy of a task well done.
I am the glow of the setting sun.
Do not stand at my grave and weep.
I am not there, I do not sleep.
(Do not stand at my grave and cry.
I am not there, I did not die!)

I agree with 5324...The dead can not benefit from your prayer,
so you should make sure that all know and understand the mother and son is at rest, no more pain, suffering, sickness or sorrow.
Make sure you make everyone aware that we never know when we too will sleep, so this life must be lived as though each day was our last here on earth.
We are praying for you, the children involved and the rest of the family and friends.
I know this will get a lot of rude comments but those who are True Christians will understand, we need to pray for the husband and for his family too.

I will post this on my prayer chain. Those poor kids! My prayer would be that the boys would know that the killings weren't of God and that once they are out of the sheer shock of it they realise that everyone has a choice. Their dad (stepdad, you didn't specify) could have walked away but chose the violent path. I pray that the boys get the counseling that I am sure they will need for years to come.

Keith, that would be a tall order for anyone. I would pray for God to watch over those who still live, that they find the strength to go on in spite of all they have seen. I would pray that they find the tenacity to live a good life to honor their mother and brother. I would leave out forgiveness of the father for the funeral but might talk to them and pray with them about that in private.

It is more of a reading than a prayer, but I find it heartfelt and appropriate for children dealing with such a horrible loss.
Do Not Stand At My Grave and Weep
Mary Elizabeth Frye
Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there; I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow,
I am the sun on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush,
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there; I did not die.
I hope this helps and send much sympathy to this family.

Pray for God to comfor the survivors.
Really, I believe the dead have nothing to benefit from with your prayer so you can leave them out. However, the living
need all the divine intervention they can get.

Lord God,
We pray for the souls of those who are gone from us, that they may be in Paradise.
We pray for the healing of those left behind, that they may
may be comforted.
We pray for the family, friends, and neighbors - that they will
love and support one another,as you have done to us.
In Jesus name,
Amen
p.s. Feel free to tweak this for other religions - I just did it the way my family would

Wow! That is tough! I am sure God will lead you in what you are to say. Trust the Holy Spirit. He knows what those kids need to hear.
God bless you with joy, peace and his presence!

First, ask God to help you and give you the words to say.
Pray that God will help this family through this time and be with the children.
God Bless.
Also, look in the bible, quote scripture that gives hope to this family.
