I know it has been done but can't find any real info about it. iirc is it about a mine fire.

In 2003 a jet engine was used to put out a mine fire - it was used to blow water vapor and inert gases into the mine to smother the fire by creating an inert environment underground.

The Russians used a jet engine to blow out some oil well fires in Kuwait after the first gulf war. basically it force water at the oil well in a high pressure stream and blew the fire out.
