If you were faced with a rhinoceros, what could you do to kill it?

Durring Safari the Rhino is typicly shot with a .458 mag or larger round. The NE or Nitro Express rounds are suggested but not all hunters can handle the recoil. Rhino's are not as hard to take as Bull Elephants, these animals are as tough as they come.

To answer your question, I would say shoot it just above the quaterplex from a side view using no less than a .458 Lott Magnum rifle.

How do you kill a rhinoceros? The first question you have to ask yourself is, "Why?"

Now, if I HAD to, I'd use nothing less than a dangerous game rifle. The minimum dangerous game caliber in African is the .375 Holland and Holland. I'd use at least a .458 Winchester magnum, but preferably a .470 Nitro Express. Forget the .50 BMG, it is NOT a hunting caliber. Try lugging one around the jungle and you'll get what I mean.

I remember reading a poem in school once, about a guy hunting rhino. He said he used platinum bullets because lead bullets would just flatten out on the rhino's hide. Platinum is so high dollar that I doubt anyone really makes them, but you would definitely want to load solids in your big game rifle to hunt rhino.

Best.

The reason you get so many fun, BS answers is for a good reason -- the guy with the nuke might be on the right track. They're big, heavy, tougher than boiled coyote, and if he's P.O.'d, good luck stopping it. If he's not trying to turn you into a door mat, the guy with a .458 is on the right track. A big enough rifle will kill anything, if you really intend on that happening. A .460 Weatherby Mag, .416 Rigby, .416 Remington Mag, and others (bigger than the .416's would be a good idea) would do the trick. Load them right, shoot them right, and you may live to hunt another day.

I can't even think about being able to afford to hunt the things, but those who have use the same rifles they use for the other big boys. I'd love to have a double in 450 or some such caliber and have the opportunity, but the opportunities are very limited (for the most part, they're protected) and the trophy fees astronomical.

you would have to travel an awful long ways to find one and do something really dumb to be face to face.
i would have no desire to kill one. they have a tough enough time surviving as it is. and seriously what would you do with it after you killed it? i am a proud hunter but i would never do anything to hurt an entire species of animals that has so few numbers.
