If he has a plan for your life and you pray about stuff (for signs) does he know already that you are going to pray and will answer only after you pray? So, if he already knows what is going to happen and what is in your head already why do we pray? I pray about stuff all day and most of the time get the answer. OK, this probably sounds a bit confusing!

Asked my pastor same question - his answer:
God has plan for us, but since we have free will, we probably won't follow his plan to closely. He is open to our prayers so he can help us stay on track for his plan. However, if we chose not to ask for his help - sucks to be us, cause God won't help unless asked.
God does not know what we are praying for ahead of time - again due to free will. This is why he likes hearing from us - to know what he are thinking, feeling, and needing from him.

God knows everything, and He knew what you were going to pray about in May 14th of next year, long, long before that year and month and day even get here! Let alone, what you just prayed about(past tense)!!!
We pray because God wants us to talk to Him because WE ARE HIS CHILDREN, and to keep the COMMUNICATION LINES open!!!
Now try to image having a child you love dearly, and the only way that you can communicate with them, is by the book of instructions you wrote to them years ago!! In this case, . .the Bible. Sure God knows what we need or want way, way before we ask it, but He like to hear His children talk to Him anyway. Keeps the parent-child relationship going STRONG!!!

Thousands of people a day pray for peace and never get what they pray for. Thousands pray for their loved ones and they die anyway. Try whistling in the wind, it'll do more good than prayers.

Yes. God knows the past, the present, and the future. But that doesn`t mean you don`t need to or shouldn`t pray.

i know, i think the same things too, but i've learned that we pray as a form of being in and going into a closer relationship with Him which is what He wants from us, that's why he made us...and he already know everything that was and is and will be but we don't and we do it to get closer to Him, to seek Him

I totally understand your question. Yet I do not believe God already knows what we are going to pray about. I believe God is All-Knowing but I do not believe he knows every little detail. He limits his foreknowledge in order to give us Free will.

He knows. Prayer is more than just asking. He wants you to communicate your feelings. Just like your parents or friends.
