Only bitches. My dog is a mother, and I got a big scratch. Before I went to bed my dog licked it, and when I woke up it felt better.

Yuck.

Dog saliva does not have any healing properties, on their own wounds or human wounds

Dog's lick their wounds out of instinct: as a comfort thing. Don't you put your finger in your mouth if you get a paper cut? It doesn't help but it just feels like a good thing to do!

Dog's mouths have bacteria in them. If they lick a wound, they're putting that bacteria straight in the wound = infection.

Don't be puting dog drool on your wounds, or letting a dog lick it's own wounds! Not helpful!

דָנִיאֵל - for God's sake. Have you not considered the scratch would've felt better by the morning even if it HADN'T been licked?!

there is no healing properties. a dogs saliva has a great deal of bacteria. they can lick their own wounds without problems but too much licking will get infected. I was bitten by a friends dog and within 24 hours I was seriously infected and had to have strong antibiotics to which I turned out to be allergic to. my doctor explained the bacteria myth to me. also had a dog that licked his incision after operation and became badly infected as well, he was able to work that e-collar down enough to get to his incision.

canines salivas are somewhat sparkling (purely in comparison to our very own) and does incorporate an antibacterial enzyme - lysozyme... yet there would desire to be different aspects which could make contributions to the an infection of a human's wound... (think of the place they lick as quickly as they use the bathing room, how they sparkling their paws after working down the line.) It does incorporate solid components, its truthfully shown. yet, kinda risky human beings to hire... nevertheless, for MINOR wounds... scratches and such, i've got permit my domestic dog canines lick at it - its his nature... and not something has occurred. Now i've got no longer observed healing rapidly or something, yet do no longer enable them to lick gashed, open or puncture wounds. Any coliform (gut or poop) micro organism can commute and reason substantial injury...

Though dog saliva was once believed to have healing properties and does kill some bacteria, it also contains its own exotic cornucopia of bacteria that can cause serious infections, especially in people with weak immune systems.

nope....dogs have just as much if not more bacteria in their saliva. However their bodies have a better defense system against bacteria. This is why they can lick their own wounds and most of the time not get infections.

I have always heard that, but i don't know. I don't see how an animal that licks their bottoms and other dogs bottoms can lick a human wound and make it better! I may be wrong but I don't know for sure!

I have heard that but considering what they lick with their tongues I don't think I'd want them salivating on my cuts and abrasions.
