If you do not believe in God, what hope do you have for the planet? I don't believe the Earth will be destroyed by something we have absolutely no control over, because I believe in God. If you do not believe in God you MUST believe something horrible is going to happen sooner or later which will ruin the planet with no hope.
Not that I dont think bad things will happen, however I believe God has a plan, so he will only allow it to happen to a point, or according to his plan. And that he will eventually usher in paradise on Earth.
If you are an atheist its all doom and gloom sooner or later.

How are you going to take care of an astroid impact or a nuclear war?

2007-04-25 05:29:07 · update #1

rollo - God always did restoration afterwards. The Earth is not going to be destroyed sooner or later contrary to what atheists believe.

2007-04-25 05:31:34 · update #2

elana - If you want to be logical about atheism and what the future may hold if the doom and gloom of atheism is true, then those are possible things without any hope for healing.

2007-04-25 05:36:25 · update #3

LD - Exactly, no hope ultimately.

2007-04-25 05:39:04 · update #4

Elana - Thats my point. You have no hope because you are faithless when it comes to God.

2007-04-25 05:42:37 · update #5

sbil_th - Ultimately you do not. You cannot say you do not believe a horrible thing will never completly destroy us, because of lack of faith.

2007-04-25 05:46:28 · update #6

bettiera - What about religious good people. They DO care.

2007-04-25 05:48:49 · update #7

sansfear - I think God's justice system is alot more complex than your simple portrayal. You base your rejection of faith on things you believe to be foolish when in reality they are not because God knows what he is doing. THE things of God are not always the way religion portrays them to be.

2007-04-25 06:04:59 · update #8

girl wonder - If there is no God your hope is in vain.

2007-04-25 06:07:14 · update #9

jennifer - All you basically said is that the things of God are nothing but doom and gloom to you. You did not guarantee that we will not die. You can only believe that we will not die if you have faith in God. I'm very sorry you do not.

2007-04-25 06:13:26 · update #10

selnyk - NO he is not. HE will bring paradise to the planet. It will be after some terrible things happen but NOT total destuction like what you atheists believe is in store for us sooner or later. Without God its only a matter of when not if.

2007-04-25 06:17:23 · update #11

sansfear - But you don't have hope in God who is our only hope at the end of the day. Everything you talked about could come to naught in the blink of an eye sort a speak, because in your mind there is no GOd to help us in the event of something totally destructive.

2007-04-25 06:20:50 · update #12

JP - Whats this few billion years talk? You are unable to say that something will not completly wipe us out tonite because you have no faith in God. And thats sad.

2007-04-25 06:27:53 · update #13

girl wonder - I do not mean literally. I'm sorry I stated it like that to you. The way that sounded is not what I meant. I mean if there is no God our hopes will at some point vanish away.

2007-04-25 06:32:52 · update #14

JP - I just want to talk about how I believe there is hope that only comes from faith in God and its real.

2007-04-25 06:36:30 · update #15

Don't reject faith because of the way religion has portrayed theology. I believe many times religion portrays topics in ways that are not accurate to say the least.(common sense will tell you that) God is alot deeper and more complex than he is portrayed to be quite often.

2007-04-25 06:44:46 · update #16

JP - Your saying there is no hope because there is no God! Thats my whole point. Thank you.

2007-04-25 06:47:12 · update #17

I mean my point is simply to talk about the perceived hopelessness of atheism.

2007-04-25 06:51:36 · update #18

JP - Your saying "so what if there is no GOD"? Well it clearly makes a huge difference if not now, at some point. That would mean there is no one to protect us from things which we need protection from. But I will tell you that God is present. And he IS protecting us as we speak. Nothing can happen that is not apart of God's plan. Now isn't that good to know? It just makes sense that the Creator is watching over his creation.

I am sorry you are so Doom and Gloom. Your belief in God indicates that you believe that he is going to destroy a majority of humanity by relegating them to Hell.

That is not exactly a rosy painted picture for the future for the vast majority of mankind, although I am sure it makes your denomination feel great.

There is a chance that humanity will be destroyed by nuclear war or an asteroid, but I choose to believe that education will reduce the likelyhood of humanity self destructing, and technology will reduce the likelyhood of the earth being destroyed by a comet or asteroid.

Religious use of weapons of mass destruction is the greatest threat humanity faces today. Without people willing to kill others for thier personal belief in God, the likelyhood of someone setting off a nuclear device reduces greatly. We still have differences in opinions through culture, but most educated/established countries understand that doing so would be detrimental to all. That is why we avioded nuclear conflict during the cold war.

My hopes are that we can continue to increase education throughout the world, and that technology will help us decrease threats, increase medical cures, decrease starvation and provide a steady philosophy that encourages all humans to strive for the future, rather than kill one another based on differences.

Religious belief is the greatest force standing in the way of this type of progress right now.

Usually it's the Christian fundamentalists spreading doom and gloom and endtimes all over the place. You try telling them that things aren't so bad and they give you 'thumbs-down' so fast it'll make your head spin.

The sun, and therefore the planet, isn't going to last forever, and that is a fact. But that doesn't necessarily mean the end of mankind-mankind may spread out through the universe. An earthlike planet has just been discovered in another solar system. If that doesn't give you hope for the future I don't know what will. Even without a deity of some sort.

The sun, and consequentyly the earth, has a finite life span. There's nothing we can do about it. One day the earth will be destroyed. That's not doom and gloom, it's scientific fact. You can choose to believe that a God or Gods will save you from it all, or you can choose to believe that man will attempt to reach out to the stars in an effort to perpetuate the species. That's not science fiction, it's a real possibility. As long as the human specis can continue there is reason to hope.

Nope. Neither. You're flat out wrong.

History has shown us, time and time again, that humans have amazing ingenuity. If we can control it, we will do so.

The fact is, I see zero evidence that this planet is going to be destroyed, much less by human means. And, while doomsayers are whining about this conjecture or that one, crop yields have been increasing over time, the real wages keep increasing over the world, medicine eradicates one illness after another, and technological leaps in transportation and communication keeps exploding ahead. I see the future growing brighter everyday.

And, I don't need god around to see it. If you truly understood Atheism (even if you didn't drop your beliefs...just an understanding), you'd get it, too.

Have you stopped beating your wife yet?

So, there is no question that SOME day the "Earth" and our moon and the rest of our current solar system, WILL collapse into the sun, or the sun will supernova and destroy everything in our solar system. There is no way to get around that.

However, do I think it's all "doom & gloom"... nope. I actually think this planet and our future is PROBABLY better off now than it has been in many previous times. We don't HAVE to drive cars if we run out of oil, we don't HAVE to use electricity for everything we ever do.

Asteroids WILL also collide with Earth at some time. That doesn't mean the entire planet will cease to exist however.

I believe that, hopefully, by the time the earth is destroyed by an asteroid or the sun exploding or our own pollution or what have you, we will have discovered interstellar space travel and have found new planets to colonize.

Why do you think that, if people don't believe in your god, they cannot have hope. I am an Agnostic, and I have plenty of hope. I just put it into people and not in some deity from a book.

Bettie hit the nail on the head.

What reason do believers have to fix the planet when they're so anxious to meet their maker & join him in candy land.... or la la land, or never never land.... or whatever land of happiness they think they're going to when they die.

If anything, non-believers are more concerned with EVERYONE and taking care of the planet so that EVERYONE as a whole can progress & better ourselves & each other.

Religious types only seem to care about getting themselves into heaven & scoring brownie points with god for bringing some converts along for the ride.

I completely believe what The book of Revelation says, but it is not ours to know the timing of things to come, Jesus tells us not to worry for tomorrow, be like the great I AM, and Be Here Now, Love this moment, and love the the Lord our God with all your ability.

First off, I don't have to believe in anything. Your
"must" is an attempt at forcing your logic down my throat.

However, Earth is one planet amongst billions if not
trillions. Even if it doesn't explode or get polluted, etc.
it will eventually disintigrate due to entropy.

Why should that offend me?

Based on your question, it appears that your
believe in God is based on the hope
for somebody to rescue you- the "Cinderella complex".

Are you really going to wait your whole life for your
prince to come?

So what you're suggesting is that you ride out the misery and bank on god to save the day?

No way, man. I don't believe in god, but I do believe in the inherent decency of people. I'm claiming a stake, saying this world is important and doing what I can to improve it.
