In Canada, in the majority of schools, French is mandatory from Grade 4 to Grade 9. There are some school boards that start earlier in Grade 1 or 3, but officially French as a Second Language Ministry documents are available from Gr. 4 to Gr.12. We also have a number of French immersion schools and boards which begin in kindergarten (l'immersion maternelle).

Actually I'm trying to learn French by myself just reading grammar books (most of them are in English ¬¬) because I don't have enough money in order to pay a course... well, it's a quite difficult language, although there is a lot of similarities between French and Portuguese (my 1st language)... I have problems with the pronounce, since I have nobody to help me...
je voudrais parler la langue française de mieux en mieux...
French here in Brazil is considered to be a very sexy language... did you know that?

Hi! I'm in highschool and I do, but really, it's quite rubbish. I've been doing french for 2 years, and we do learn alot of vocabulary, but my accent it A-W-F-U-L, because we don't learn how to pronounce. I think that's important, because I won't speak it if I sound ridiculous, and mainly, if people don't understand me. Anyway, hope I helped! xx

No, but I am studying french for myself since two months ago. And I am loving to do it! For me it's easier than english and german, the other languages I speak. My first language is portuguese.
