Whether you believe in God or not, man was given dominion over the earth. Many people out there will say that this means that God could care less what we did with this wonderful creation. This is wrong; with dominion comes responsibility like that shown to the environment by Mennonites. man was given the capacity to think on a level that no other creature could and should, as knowledge becomes available, use that knowledge to provide for our needs without plundering the planet and it's resources. God is not evicting all humans as we are doing a good enough job without His help. He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to show us his mercy and forgiveness but that does not absolve us of the responsibility given to us by God, to take care of the earth and take care of eachother.

I hadn't thought of phrasing it that way, but yes, that would sum up my opinion. We were given paradise and told to keep it sacred, and we trashed the place.

Whether it's God, Gaea or natural law, the end result is much the same.

the Deists believed in a first cause (god) but not in stewardship.

As to your first question, yes (depending what exactly you mean by stewardship). As to your second question: huh?
