I have talked to people who did it and they said it was just horrible. Made them sicker than before. But I have probably had this for 30 ys or so, that's when I was doing the kind of stupid things that bring on Hep c. So far, I have not felt, "sick." But now I do. I am tired all the time, I have no appetite whatsoever, etc... I am not wanting to be scolded please, just advice. Thank You

You were a carrier of Hep C virus for thirty years, as the early symptoms have set in I will recommend that you go for the choice of treatment as i have searched this article for your help:

Hepatitis C Treatment

Treatment is mainly based on interferon alpha (IFN?), combined with other drugs; though this action does not guarantee results. Currently, the preferred treatment is pegylated interferon together with ribavirin. Studies have shown sustained cure rates of 75% or better in people with genotypes 2 or 3 HCV/Hepatitis C Virus (which is easier to treat) and about 50% in those with genotype 1.

Individuals with Hepatitis C should be vacinnated for Hepatitis A and Hepatitis B if they have not yet been exposed to these viruses.

It is well known that alcohol makes HCV (Hepatitis C Virus) associated liver disease progress faster, and makes interferon treatment less effective.

HIV and Hep C

Approximately 40% of U.S. patients infected with HIV are also infected with the hepatitis C virus (HCV), mainly because both viruses share the same routes of transmission. HCV (Hepatitis C Virus) is one of most important causes of chronic liver disease in the U.S. It has been demonstrated in clinical studies that HIV infection causes a more rapid progression of chronic hepatitis C to cirrhosis and liver failure in HIV-infected persons.

In our hospital we recommend treatment immediately.

Hi,
I think the first thing to do is find a GI doctor in your area who specializes in hepatology or liver disease. Chronic Hep C can increase your risk of chrirosis (scarring) of the liver and of cancer of the liver.
Having said that (not to scare you!) the newer Rebatron is combination of ribiviran pills and interferon which is showing good sucess. Only 1/3 of pts have moderate to severe side effects such as fatique etc. These can be managed with other medications. 2/3 of patient can go to work and function well..the treatment is six months to a year but don't let this prevent you from treatment. You deserve a long heathly life!

Sweetie if you don't do the treatment you are going to get worse. If you do the treatment, you will get worse, but then you will probably get better! The choice is yours. The treatment is tough, but well worth it. Consider the difference between a second chance at a normal life or being sick until you die from it? You are in my thoughts and prayers. I hope you make the decision that is right for you. Good luck. We're here for you! Nana

dear lorie, being i doctor i would say that if u r suffering form 30yrs with hepatitis c you can be classified as chronic carrier . interferon treatment will now help you no more in this case . rather you should go for certain tests to ascess the present status of your liver - i would suggest you to go for lft and usg of liver and hepato biliary apparatus . assessment of your albumin level cannot be denied and it is needed . try consult your physician.
