I have always had large dogs and love them, but I am considering getting a smaller breed. Are there any that aren't instinctively hyper and yappy? It seems like all the ones i've seen are pretty high strung. Thanks!

Chinese Pug is rarely hyper or yappy.
Norfolk or Norwich Terrier: Short haired but the fur more wiry.
West Highland White Terrier: Check on parentage for temperament.
Tibetan Terrier (tends to be expensive).

(By the way, Bichon Frises and Shih Tzus are reputed to be difficult to house train or paper train.)

Bulldog or a Beagel, Bulldog are just plain lazy and Beagels are just active love to play outside and you can trained them in a week or 2. If you just want a plain lazy dog get a Basset Hound.

I have a 1 year old Yorkie, he isn't hyper at all. Their weight shouldn't exceed 7lbs.
