I have had swollen tonsils, or some gland by my tonsil, for a year now. It feels hard and gets smaller and bigger sometimes. The doctor prescribed me penicillin but it did not help. She also said that I don’t have to get them removed since I did not have any serious complications so far. But they are still swollen and Im getting worried.

Should I tell the doctor that I want them removed no matter what she thinks?

Do you have a similar issue?

Please give me some advice,

Decades ago, most children had their tonsils removed even if they just flared up a couple of times. Then doctors tried to keep them in unless they were truly causing constant infection. The tonsils do prevent infection from getting to other places in the body.

My son (who is now 26) recently had a problem similar to yours, and is wondering whether to have them removed, as well. He is still swollen too, and is going to seek a second doctor's opinion. He has had this going on for a couple of years, and thinks that having the tonsils removed would be best--but his present doctor does not agree--and has tested him for all sorts of other things (even a CAT scan). Fortunately, all tests came out negative--so he will be speaking to another doctor next week.

I wish you good health, and a speedy recovery.

My tonsils get swollen and infected every 6 months or so. One doctor told me I should have them removed if the problem gets worse. The fact is tonsil removal in adults is a painful, difficult recovery. But I have heard people with similar problems that say their tonsil problems/sore throats disappeared completely when they had them removed. If you smoke you should stop while they're irritated. Gargle with warm water and salt 3 times a day and drink warm, soothing liquids like tea but avoid dairy.

Hope you feel better and that your tonsils go down. :)

I had tonsillitis continuously when I was little and the doctor kept prescribing me medication. It got to the point that the doctor told me if I got it one more time, we'd have to remove my tonsils. Luckily, I haven't had it since. It's definitely an option you need to talk to your doctor about. Ask him if he thinks you should have them removed. I have friends that've got them removed and the swelling hurts for a few weeks but you get over it and never have to deal with it again. I hope everything works out for you, good luck.

Know the asteroid wellhead tonsil stones them for many years and it's been title not eventually.

Best decision I've ever made! I was shocked by the way of getting out the stones out. It was so easy, but more importantly, painless. I really liked the little trick he had for preventing gag reflex. He have one happy customer here.

From what you said, it sounds like you are having trouble with your tonsils. Maybe, you need another doctors opinion.
I had a lot of trouble with mine before they were taken out when I was 19. Haven't had a bit of trouble since. You are the one living with this discomfort.
Hope you get relief soon.

Listen to your Doctor! Once over the age of seven your tonsil surgery becomes major. It is much more difficult to recover from at your age.

first-try a different antibiotic. It's possible you could be allergic or just not respond to penicillian. They won't take them out unless you have consistent problems and also don't take them out if you are still sick. I had mine out after years of agony and it was the best thing I have ever done in my life! I had actually developed sleep apnea - my tonsils were so big that I was chocking on them in my sleep!

Tonsils are part of the immune system but frequently get infected. Personally I would recommend them be removed and tell your doctor of your constant discomfort. It is a fairly easy and quick procedure! Good luck!

unless they are causing problems and creating sore throats or something like that, leave them alone. The tonsils help screen out bacteria and help us from getting sick more often.

I would get a second doctor's opimion and see what the next doctor has to say about it. it's alway's good toget a second opinion no matter what the case is.
