To enter and remain without permission. Generally it is considered a violation (not a Misd or Fel). In most cases it is just Adjourned Contimplating Dismissal. It gets worse if you enter and remain for the purpose of commiting another crime such as Burglary or Assault.

I have never heard of someone actually going to court for a trespassing charge. Unless there was damage done, people are usually just given a letter saying they're banned from the property and that there will be police action if they return.

Trespassing is going onto or into someone else's property without permission. Such as private land. You have to have the owner's consent or your subject to charges. As to the consequences that depends on the state and county your in.

if no damage was caused your freind may get a conditional discharge-the owner of the land could sue your freind (even if no damage has occurred) but for what it's worth probably won't bother.. the law defines trespass as an unlawful entry onto land that has no public right of way or public right of access without the owners consent. if you do go there without the owners consent then this is trespass.
