if your contractor is any good he should know the load capacity

load capacity for what?There are building codes that all contractors are required to know, so call a couple (3 or 4) contractors to get the best price and EVERYTHING (no matter how small) MUST BE IN WRITTING!! and check out the background of the contractor you choose to see the quality of their work.

Most general contractors work from blueprints. These are drawn by and information transferred by engineers and others who have the proper information. This may be from the same company. I don't know of any GC's that check on this in the field unless they are really leerie of what they have been asked to install.
