Some times people have an obvious reason for travelling; fiscal (to make or save money), social (meet people old and new), cultural (understand different ways of living), safety (because they can't stay where they are), relaxation, fun, adventure. Sometimes the reason can be as explained as 'a new challenge'.
The root causes for some of the above is more interesting becuase they seem to be behaviours that are 'hardwired' in everyone but more compelling in some than others.
