Believing in God and keeping his commandments is good for your kids. NOT religion.

The study only included 16,000 kids. How the kids were doing mentally, socially, and otherwise, was only determined on the basis of subjective hearsay-parents and teachers. It doesn't appear that the children were ever interviewed, and the parents and teachers may have been biased-either the parents towards their own children or the teachers who might have a bias towards religion. It doesn't say, but I'm concluding that the study was conducted with Mississippi parents and children. I don't know if you've been there, but it's the heart of the bible belt.
The main flaw in the study is in the article itself-it says the study makes no correllation between which religion or Christian denomination the family follows and how well the children do.
Back to the drawing board.

Sure, I can explain it: It was a study funded by the religious right-wing, with skewed results to reflect what they wanted to hear. Trust me, if the hard-core atheists funded a similar study showing religion is bad for kids, it wouldn't get the same press coverage, and Fox News would be denouncing it on a daily basis for the next year. I'll wager you could find 16,000 atheist couples, who never discussed religion or gods, except to warn their kids against it, but who gave their children firm teaching in social morals and standards of decency, and my bet would be those children would be every bit as well-behaved.
This whole study and article is just another push on the wedge, separating us from our Constitutional freedom from forced worship, and the ongoing efforts of the religionists to turn us into a Christian version of Iran.

I'm not an Atheist, but I can explain this. It's a load of crap.
Take the opening statement for instance: "Kids with religious parents are better behaved and adjusted than other children, according to a new study that is the first to look at the effects of religion on young child development."
My father's a minister, I was a pyromaniac who vandalized churches as a kid, how do you explain me?

Divorce rates
Born-again Christians 27%
Other Christians 24%
Atheists, Agnostics 21%
Hardly what I would call significant, Atheists. Get it down to under 10% and that would be impressive.
You're only 3% points away from mainstream Methodists and Presybterians
Catholics 21%
Lutherans 21%
Same as Atheist and Agnostic
Why do Atheists lie so much! Why do they use words to stretch the truth.
Same tatics Muslims use.
Just another proof of how decitful Atheists REALLY are!

Read the whole story:
"""It’s also possible that the correlation between religion and child development is the other way around, he said. In other words, instead of religion having a positive effect on youth, maybe the parents of only the best behaved children feel comfortable in a religious congregation. """""

More than likely, religion provides a positive social network for the family. What your study does not say is that disbelief in a god, goddess, or gods is BAD for your kids.

i am an atheist, however i do believe that you should follow the golden rule and the 10 commandments. i don't believe in them from a religious standpoint, but they are a good guideline to follow to have a good life.
My kids are free to believe whatever makes sense to them. i do not force my beliefs on them. if they ask me i will be honest, but the decision is their's.

You wanna know why that may be true and some of the kids are better behaved? Because they are brainwashed and led to believe that if they misbehave they are going to hell and will burn for all eternity. Its a scare tactic.
