I have not come across what exactly he used to do to meditate, but i have read that he was quite unhappy with the state of affairs in Arabia at the time especially the tribal wars and the bloodshed. He used to go to the cave in Mount Hira to retire and to reflect upon his life and his surroundings. Also note that mount hira was quite far from Mecca, and also quite high, so he could reflect in peace and quiet and not be disturbed by the life of the city.

You are right. He used to go to Mt.Noor commonly known as Hira cave for deep thinkings before receiving the Book - Al-Quran.

For early life of Muhammad you may consult any authentic History Book. you don't need to trace his life in Hadith only.

He used to remember God in silence, far away from his people who were worshiping no less than 360 idols that were housed in the Kaaba. Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) was very grief stricken with the evil practice of idol worship and used to retreat to Mt. Hira and spend his time in solitude asking God for forgiveness and blessings.

I'm sure he did. There is a hadith for every occasion, more often than not contradicting some other hadith. Mohamed was either demon possessed or had epilepsy. I'd hardly call that meditation.
