When getting a tattoo, price is NOT an issue. The quality of artwork and cleanliness of the studio is what is important.
I would much rather pay twice as much for a quality tattoo done at a clean, reputable studio, than to get a cheap, crappy tattoo done at a dirty studio and risk getting HIV or Hep-C.
Think about the price being spread out over your lifetime. It's not much money when you look at it that way. You get what you pay for, especially with tattoos. Remember, it's there forever. Bargain shop buying groceries, not getting tattoos.

Tattoos are one of those things where you get what you pay for. Maybe the place where her aunt works is less sanitary, has less gifted artists, is less available to answer concerns about aftercare etc. Someone may have gotten a cheaper equivalent tattoo, but maybe they were just lucky. Tell them that the parlour you went to was well-recommended by other people you know and that you are pleased. Good word of mouth is the best when getting a tattoo

If you are 100% happy with the results you got for the price you paid, then don't worry about it. If you went to the other place and got it for half of the price, you would be half as happy. Tattoos are forever, you need to be fully happy with what you get. So just think of it this way, you paid full price to be fully happy. You could of paid half price in hopes you would be fully happy.

"I can pay what I paid and get good, quality work, or I can go to the cheap place and get crap like yours" usually works. "I'm paying my artist for his/her skill, talent and experience" is a nicer one.
I like what you decided to say. Price shouldn't matter (within reason of course) when it comes to permanent body art. I've had people say the same thing to me. Where my artist works, there's another shop 3 stores down from him that charges a fair bit less. People point that out to me when I tell them where I got my work done. I'll tell them that I prefer a sober, talented artist over a 'good deal'
I've also had people complain over the prices I charge. I explain the sober and skilled part, and point out that I use the best jewelry, which costs more. You pay for quality.

Tell them that you cannot put a price on quality. If you trust the artist, the shop, and you're thoroughly satisfied with the results of your tattoo, then nobody needs to question the cost.
I would let them know that unless they intend to pay for me, they don't need to worry about the price!

People in life usually look for the cheaper deal, unless you happen to be super wealthy, then you don't care.
So others who tell you that you ripped off may just be looking out for you, so that next time, you can get a better price.
Although for tattoos, you can't always shop around since the pirce is not negotiable.

this in particular.
state that you did your own research and found the artist that you were comfortable with to provide your body with art for the rest of your life.
I've gotten the 'well, my (frend, relative, etc), could have done it better' thing before, and well, usually it's not the best deal.
you can also state that you'd rather have someone without recommendation so that if there was a problem, it wouldn't interefere with any relationships... (this has worked for me).
everyone I know with a tat says that 'their artist is the best' well, there are thousands upon thousands of tattoo artists in this country... if they're all 'the best one out there'... well... think about it.

I would say I have been researching many aspects of getting my tattoo. Since it will be part of my body forever. My main concern was not PRICE, but on the artist and sanitation of the shop among other things. I love my result, and when it comes to my body and health I am willing to pay TOP dollar !!!

you made the right choice. anybody who is going to get a tattoo based on price is not someone i would take tattoo advice from. i know i could have gotten the tattoos i have for much cheaper but they would likely look like crap. i am happy with the tattoos that i have and am okay with the money i have spent on them.
just keep saying what you are, that you are happy with your tattoo and happy with the price you paid for it.

I can't give any better answer than the one you already gave to her - you've basically said it all! It's your tattoo, you researched it, you chose it, you paid for it and you're happy with it! I think you're absolutely right to recognise that price is the last thing you should be worrying about when getting a tattoo - the main thing is that you're happy with your ink. Enjoy it!
