For Win2K or WinXP, if you have no Service Packs installed, and you install SP3, does it mean the same as having installed SP1, 2 and 3?

from my experience, windows update will not allow you to auto-download SP3 unless you've first installed SP1 and SP2. With WinXP, I remember when SP2 came out, some fixes built upon what was present in SP1, so unless you had already installed 1, there would still be holes that couldn't be fixed with 2.

I never heard of service packs for Win2K, and SP3 for XP has not been released yet. XP SP2 does contain "almost" everything SP1 had and more. That doesn't mean you should skip SP1. They are cumulative and need to be installed in order of issue.

Yes.

Service packs are cumulative. If you install SP3, you do not need to install SP1 or SP2 first.
