People in the Northeast are very self centered and are extremely quick tempered .Jobs are very demanding in the Northeast compared to other parts of the country and there is a major problem of people coming from dysfunctional homes it is alarming .

Haha well, I'm a Bostonian, and I don't like to think of myself as unfriendly. I know what you mean, though, I remember being surprised when someone said "Thank you" for holding the door last time I was in Virginia. I think people live very quickly in the cities in the Northeast, particularly New York and Boston, and being in a rush gives them a feeling of "Move, I'm more important." Oh, and people tend to have really high incomes around here, which definitely contributes to thinking they're more important. Not all of us are like that though, just like there are green parts of New Jersey and Democrats in Texas.

that is a pretty broad generalization. i live in the northeast and i don't completely agree with you. i have been to newyork and the people there are unbelievably rude. but i live in md and it's not the case here. i always hold the door for people and say bless you if they sneeze. when people walk by i smile. it's not always reciprocated or appreciated but i do it anyway. i get really mad when i hold the door open and they don't say thank you. or when people just push past you without saying excuse me. new york is pretty fast paced and i think they just want to get where they are going, they don't really care to be friendly or social. they are just trying to get through the day. but don't group everyone in the north east into that category just because of a few bad experiences

I would not generalize this...I find also the people in the Midwest very rude and the same way you describe the Northeastern people....
It's probably because these states are so darn freaking cold, you bundle up all the time, the wind blows like crazy....it's too much to say even a Hello to somebody....
:-)))))

Additional information needed: Are these people you know? In a city of 8 million people, you simple can't say Hi to everyone you see in the street. In fact, strictly speaking, it's rude to try to engage a stranger in conversation.
