What would be the pros and cons of having undercover police officers in our schools? How could we get this started?

One of the reasons I'm asking is that there is only one officer on campus here at my sons school. There are fights daily between students, suspision of drugs on campus, and students have been caught carrying knives.

Pros: Better security, happier parents, More students paying attention to studies, less violence

Cons: Higher taxes, low student moral due to show of force, Less school funding, lower grades due to outdated textbooks and other school equipment. Lower Teacher wages, because instituion will have to fund police.

One way you could do it is petition your local governer and have a county or state law passed that would have an optional clause that would allow for a city funded police officer to be at every school that needed one. You would probably have to set up a proposal that you would have to follow through with to raise money for the officers 1/2 years pay. Of course, it would probably still be voluntary because they aren't going to pass a bill that would cost tax payers $20,000 a year, per school to fund. That's a lot of moola per state. I'd start small if I were you, work your way up to the top.

sheesh, sounds like the schools are a disaster. Im sure most will not mind about undercover cops making arrest at schools for drugs and contraband and infiltrating those groups. the concern will arise then the school superintendent decides to use those undercover cops to infiltrate other student groups that the school disagrees with and decides to demoize.

I think schools should teach morality.
We never needed undercover cops. Besides walking 5 miles in the snow to get to school, we watched out for each other.
BTW the police are at the police station, call them.

At the High School my daughter goes to they have Administrators which are not teachers but are kind of like the school police. They find out everything that is going on,stop fights and do alot of the things (under cover) police do. It works well. Seems to be pretty peaceful.

I believe there is already a serious shortage of law enforcement as it is. Law enforcement places school resource officers in the schools where available. If a serious issue is identified where undercover officers are required...then it can be considered.

Additional issues would be finding officers that would fit in with the age group targeted.

If one was wishing to pursue this issue they should contact their local law enforcement agency.

Best wishes.

You still have the problem that a police office, uniformed or undercover, can't be everywhere at once. Most incidents are over relatively quickly.

I think that if we are going to have undercover police officers in your schools I think its important that they are armed. Whats the point of having security if they are just going to get shot anyways?

I think we should have parents teach their children the respect for teachers, the values and morals children should exhibit in schools, and whoop their *** if they break the rules all in an effort not the need cops in schools. We're on a terrible downward spiral people and parents need to step it up. 21-Jump Street was a great show and good concept, but hard to make it happen.....

I think it would be good. It would help reduce crime in the schools. Someone would be less likely to sell drugs, or bring a gun or something if they knew a teacher or someone was a cop.

Also, Johnny Depp could be the cop.

That sounds like a good idea to me. However, it would be hard to do given they have to blend into the classes as students or faculty.
