Obviously I've read the Bible, how else could I have reached a conclusion?

Hello Mia. I hope all is well. I am sorry you view the Bible as a intolerant and bigotry book. I do grant as a Christian, some parts of the Bible are hard to digest. For example, God ordering the killing of babies, women, and a hot topic right now calling homosexuality a sin. This is hard to read and would seem intolerant. Your question is not invalid. Thank you for asking it.
As a Bible as a whole though, we have a book of truth and grace. I am glad it is upfront about some of the hard to swallow historical facts. If we found out through other sources that God ordered Isreal to kill babies, would that not be harder to take in than reading it straight from the source. It's kinda like hearing from your own spouse he or she has done something, like made the decision to move overseas to pursue a career. What if the significant other found out that decision through someone else? It's about being straight forward about history and God has done that through some of the Bible.
The other part of the Bible, Grace, is so ....well just great. Jesus died for us, and if we ask him into our hearts he will forgive us. He has changed my life, because I use to be a addict. His grace has and continues to change my life. If you have not considered this invite Mia, God is always ready to talk to you about it. He also wants to answer your questions too through prayer, others, and His Word. Keeping asking and seeking!

Philemon 1:3,
Jonathan

The bible is a guide book to love, a better life and deeper relationship to God.

People tend to filter what they read in a way that reinforces their own perspective and prejudices. Reading the bible with a fixed mindset perpetuates this problem.

The key to spiritual growth is to read the bible (or any other scripture) with an open mind with the desire for God to speak to you.

You have to be willing to be surprised by what you hear.

I'm a Christian so I follow the Bible. Jesus Christ died for us so we follow the New Testament.

On answering my question, I doubt that you've lived in the Middle East. Crushing pregnant women has happened.
