Jehovah's Witnesses are adviced to search partners between those who have the same beliefs. Doing so they respect what the Bible says.

"... she is free to be married to whom she wants, only in [the] Lord." -- 1 Corinthians 7:39

"Do not become unevenly yoked with unbelievers. For what fellowship do righteousness and lawlessness have? Or what sharing does light have with darkness?" -- 2 Corinthians 6:14

Why do you want a girlfriend that is a Jehovah's Witnesses?
It doesn't sound like your actually interested in someone that is a witness.

Jehovah's Witnesses are encouraged to "marry only in the Lord". Although, there are many who have unbelieving mates. Many due to one mate becoming a witnesses after they were already married.

Marriage is hard enough now a days, without adding different religions into the mix.

Of course, your talking about a girlfriend... Witnesses take dating very serious. We only date when we are old enough and mature enough to be married. Dating is not done for recreation, but to find a marriage mate.

Then of course, we do not feel that sex before marriage is approved by God.

The only way to fore sure get a witness as a girlfriend is to study and become a witness yourself. Of course, that should not be the reason you want to be a witness. It should be because you have studied the bible and feel that you have found the truth and want to dedicate your life to Jehovah.

The same way you get a respectable girlfriend from any religion. By becoming friendly with her and her family, being very respectful of their wishes, and being open minded enough to learn about their faith. I am friends with many Witnesses, and they are good people. Your being an upstanding person, treating their daughter with care and dignity, and obeying house rules in terms of curfews, etc will show them you are the kind of person they would like their daughter to go out with.

They are really not super different from the other Christian religions with the exception of the duty they feel to God and Jesus to spread the Bibles messages. They are also, as a group, quite protective of bad influences on their kids, because they believe their childrens ultimate fate is in their hands to an extent.

I would advise you to ask her about her faith, and listen. It may be something you believe in, or it may not. The choice is up to you. If its someone whom you think you would marry somewhere down the line, it is very important you share the same faith. But as for just friendly dating, just being respectful and listening and even polite questioning is considered wonderful.

I have known three families of Witnesses very well for over a decade. We have worked together in business, we are friends, and we have studied the Bible together. Although I have not yet decided if their religion is right for me, they remain a very important part of my life. They are very peaceful, mild mannered, hopeful people, and very dedicated to God and Jesus. They have never pressured me to join, the decision is always up to the individuals relationship with God. (They refer to Him as Jehovah, because that is His personal name.)

I encourage you to get to know her. Whether or not its a serious thing, spending time around a traditionally valued family certainly can't hurt. Enjoy!

Jehovah's Witnesses generally date other Jehovah's Witnesses. The Scriptures clearly instruct a true worshipper to marry only another true worshipper.

(Exodus 23:32) You are not to conclude a [marriage or other] covenant with them or their gods.

(Deuteronomy 7:3) And you must form no marriage alliance with [unbelievers]. Your daughter you must not give to his son, and his daughter you must not take for your son.

(1 Corinthians 7:39) She is free to be married to whom she wants, only in the Lord.

(Nehemiah 13:25) You should not give your daughters to [the unbeliever's] sons, and you should not accept any of their daughters for your sons or yourselves.

(2 Corinthians 6:14) Do not become unevenly yoked with unbelievers.

The Scriptures also warn against elevating human desires above godly teachings.

(2 Thessalonians 2:1-3) We request of you not to be quickly shaken from your reason... Let no one seduce you in any manner

(Romans 16:17-18) Keep your eye on those who cause ... stumbling contrary to the teaching that you have learned, and avoid them. ...by smooth talk and complimentary speech they seduce the hearts of guileless ones.

(2 Timothy 4:3-5) For there will be a period of time when they will not put up with the healthful teaching, but, in accord with their own desires, they will accumulate teachers for themselves to have their ears tickled... You, though, keep your senses in all things, suffer evil, do the work of an evangelizer, fully accomplish your ministry.
