Word or "mantra" meditation can be done in several ways. You can picture the word in your mind and focus upon it. You can say the word out loud as you meditate and focus on the sound (meditation does not have to be silent). Or you could get a meditation CD where you listen to the words and sounds. If you are able to make recordings yourself you could always make your own.

Just concentrate on the sound and how its pronounced, not the meaning, this is mantra meditation. However another meditation is to "feel" the meaning of this word, but dont picture it.

Meditation - To reflect on, ponder, to think about, consider. Joshua 1:8 says: This book of the Law shall not depart out of thy mouth, for thou shall meditate day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that are written therein, for thou shall make thy way prosperous, and thou shall have good success. How to meditate - ask the Holy Spirit to help you, get an understanding of that particular verse your reading, then say it over and over, write it from memory. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you apply it to your daily living. Also, John 14:26 But the comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. So, it takes time to meditate on the scriptures, setting a quite time with you and the Lord without distractions.

To consentrate on word you vidualize what the word or text means to you. If you are talking about scripture i like to use Isiah 54:10 as a example...
Though the mountains be shaken
and the hills be removed,
yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken
nor my covenant of peace be removed,"
says the LORD, who has compassion on you.
Focus on the word.... The part that says, Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be removes... You could look at it as if Everything in your life is not going the way you want it, and the second part says, Yet my unfailing love for you willnot be shaken nor my covenant of peace be removed... This means that Even if your life is going totaly wrong god will always be with you...
That's how you metitate on word... You put yourself in the scripture!

Try using OM, it is a nice soothing sound and the meaning is so complex you don't need to worry about it at all. It is a primordial sound and there is a reason it has been used by countless people who meditate. It vibrates nicely in your cells.

Meditation's purpose is for you to experience the present moment, being totally present. That is all it is meant for.

No, seek God on what HIS meaning is for YOU personally. Sit quietly, consintrating on hearing his voice speak to you about what you've just read.
