Your mother is really BLESSED to have such caring children (as adults!). She should rightly be proud, and I think that, no matter what, she (and your grandmother) would be just tickled to death to even have you host them both for a family dinner at your house, where you let them SIT DOWN and relax!
For myself (I'm now an Empty-Nesting Single Retiree), it will NOT be the same story. (and yes, I am also a Military Retiree and a Long Term Single Parent). My Adult children are selfish, toxic, and disrespect my Career choices, my home, and are in that nasty late teen/early 20s stage -- where I am a non-entity UNTIL They want some THING (Whether it is money, property, etc). I've closed the pocketbook, and now ...
I'll be spending Mother's day taking MYSELF out to eat -- because I'll be travelling to see a sibling (and yes, they DO CARE -- my children chose to be like the ex and abuse/use people). We also cooperate and put flowers on the gravesites of our Mother/Grandmothers on occasions as well -- because ... we (my siblings and I) buried our parents and grandparents (and most every other elderly family member) over a quarter century ago (and longer).
So (hopefully) I won't be bothered for DEMANDS for (money, property, whatever -- including nuisance lawsuits) from EITHER the ex or the Adult Children on Mother's Day this year! (And yes, this happens. The ex is a sociopath and 'thinks' I somehow 'owe' him a living after that short disaster of a marriage -- and it is approximately a decade and half AFTER the divorce!).

Well, I always share mothers day weekend with my mother - I was born on mothers day and my b-day always falls within a few days, so I usually just buy her flowers, since I am usually going and doing things for myself during the weekend.
Plus she gets mad if I try to do a big thing for her.

I usually take my kids out for the day to celebrate with me. My parents are truck drivers, so they are always across the country. Enjoy your day!
