Good people go to hell? Would this make God a just God?

Nope. Also I do not think that it it up to me to "think" about.
Many people say oh this person is this so they are going to Hell, that is not our judgement but Heavenly Fathers. I like to believe that every good person will be able to go to Heaven but it is not up to me.

I guess it depends on what you mean by "hell".

The hell that most non-LDS Christians believe in, no, I don't believe God will send any of His children to a place like that. Not a merciful God.

There is three definitions of "hell", IMHO.

The first is Outer Darkness, the eternal place where Satan, his minions, and the Sons of Perdition go. Now, I've been told that one needs more theological knowledge than most people have to become a son of perdition.

The second is the temporary place where people go in "spirit prison" to repent of sins they should have repented of in life, but didn't. This is, as I said, temporary, and when one has repented of their sins, they will then go to their reward.

The third is the hell of one's own making, where one knows what one could have had, but threw away.

Hell is just the common grave of mankind. So yes, good people and bad people are in hell (the grave).

The bible says at John 28 & 29 "Do not marvel at this, because the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial toms willhear his voice and come out, those who did good things to a resurrection of life, those who practiced vile things to a resurrection of judgement."

Acts 24: 15 "and I have hope toward God, which hope these men themselves also entertain, that there is going to be a resurrection of both the righteous and the unrighteous."

Ro. 6: 23 "wages of sin is death"

Ecc. 9: 5, 6 & 10 "dead are conscious of nothing"
Ps. 146: 4 "..goes back to the ground, in that day his thoughts do perish"

So the dead are dead in the grave awaiting the resurrection which will be of righteous people and unrighteous. Those who did not serve God, will be judged not for past deeds, as those sins have been paid for by their death, but for their deeds from that point on..will they be obedient and serve God after their resurrection?

I believe our Heavenly Father and his Son, Jesus Christ, will judge us on the intent of our heart.

If we lived our lives with humility, trying to do the best we could, they will reward us accordingly.

But if we considered ourselves good in a worldly view, and were too prideful to give faith a chance, we will have our reward also. But it will be a wordly reward, not an eternal reward.

Similar goes for those that never have a chance to learn about God. They will be judged on how they lived their lives according to what they knew and the intent of their hearts.

I also believe that we will be happy with our eternal judgement, knowing God to be a just and loving God. As a Mormon, I believe the lowest kingdom of Heaven to be better than here on Earth.

The only place we view as a truly horrific place that the inhabitants of will never know contentment in is reserved for only truly evil people like Cain.

I apologize that I do not address Hell directly in my answer, but I don't believe in Hell as a physical place.

Personaly I think that "good" people (and for the sake of argument I shall define good as people who don't break the ten commandments (hardly need to be an angel not to covet thy neighbours ***) rather than those who don't pray the right way) do go to heaven.
I optimistically wish to believe in a God who judges us on our actions towards our fellow man (and woman), rather than which particular method we chose to worship him (or not).
At the fundamental level, surely the goal is to treat others how we would wish to be treated? Is this not what Christ's basic message was (sorry, can't claim much knowledge on the teachings of Mohammed, Budhha etc).

My sister, who does not believe in God, says this all the time. "I'm a good person. Isn't that what it's all about?"

Not too many people are going to come out and say, "I am a bad person and I deserve hell." We don't get to do the judging, but we were provided with the information we need. If you reject that information, no matter how you view yourself, you will not see heaven.

Religion helps people belong to groups, needed for our own defense, sanity and enjoyment. Being "good" is not enough to identify groups, so religions have other behaviors which confer membership -- what you eat, what miracles you believe, etc. The problem with that is that if one is right, the others are wrong. This leads to little and big wars. I'd rather be a good person to everyone and believe no-one.

It matters not how "good" we are but rather if we have accepted Jesus Christ into our lives.

John 14:6
Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

And that would include good works.

Further, people do not go to a "everlasting hell fire" where they will burn forever and always when they die. They will go thru the lake of fire but then just like a match they will burn up and be no more.

Cheers

I'm guessing that 'good' is really a matter of perspective. We [mortals] might view one-another as 'good' but it is God who makes the final decision as to whether we deserve that description or not. Considering he demands perfection, I think we will all fall in to the 'bad' category. Luckily He sent his Son as a redeemer for the world and through Him everyone has the opportunity to be considered perfect through His grace. So, can 'good' people go to hell? Yes, if they don't accept Jesus as their redeemer they will remain 'good' only from our point-of-view and not God's.

The concept of hell and purgatory, the way is preached by Christians, is based on Dante's Divine Comedy. Until the years 1300s when Dante wrote his masterpiece, there was no "specific" descriptions of hell and purgatory. In addition, the word "gehena" found in the Bible, was mistranslated as "hell" when the truth is "gehena" means dump, where people used to toss garbage, not a "place of torment".

Yes, good people go to hell. The only thing that saves us from going to hell is our relationship with (not merely belief in) Jesus. And God is a just God--He told us just how to have eternal life(If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to cleanse us and forgive us of all unrighteousness)...it's not as though we're stumbling around without a clue of how live. The question is wether or not we choose to follow Him.
