Why do religious people allow science technology in hospitals instead of prayer? Religious people do not accept science as it applies to explaining our origins in terms of evolution and as a result the other explanation is creationism... so why then do religious people put their faith in science to save their loved ones from life threatening illness? Example... at a hospital why not sit around and pray instead of connecting heart monitors and blood tests incorporating science to diagnose and cure disease. Instead of injecting a surgery patient with a pain killer why not just pray to God to take away the pain and if that does not happen isn't the patient not one of God's children?

Roy: My question did not contain any name calling. It is possible there is not one question on Yahoo that some person does not find offensive. My question was based on how religion and science may conflict each other. I gained some insight in some anwers and I appreciate most replies. I did report your reply as abuse as I do not believe your final comment was deserved: Your own example of how a Jack ***/Donkey? can use a computer does not count.

Other comments suggesting I was too simplistic in the question were understood and I will attempt to better-define any future questions. I meant no malice in my question but did try to get to the point as best I could.

Religious people (or to put it more clearly, Christians) do very well accept science, because real science does not contradict God. Whatever contradicts God is not real science. Come to think of it, What is Science? From the American Heritage Dictionary, we have the following definitions of Science, " sci·ence (sº“…ns) n. Abbr. sc., sci. 1.a. The observation, identification, description, experimental investigation, and theoretical explanation of phenomena. b. Such activities restricted to a class of natural phenomena. c. Such activities applied to an object of inquiry or study. 2. Methodological activity, discipline, or study: I've got packing a suitcase down to a science. 3. An activity that appears to require study and method: the science of purchasing. 4. Knowledge, especially that gained through experience."

SCIENCE ONLY TRIES TO DISCOVER AND EXPLAIN THE CREATIONS OF GOD.
Sometimes the creations of God are beyond the comprehension of man's intelligence and man try offer answers based on the limitations of their understanding. And many wrong assertions have been made in the process. That is why science is an ongoing thing. When science discovers that they'd made mistakes, new theories are propounded and old one discarded. e.g, it used to be believed that the earth was flat (why the bible have always maintained that it was round/spherical), but now science knows better that the earth is not flat. Some so called scientist still believe in evolution, but one day they may know better and come to agree with better science that man was created by God.
For the purpose of records, they're alot of sicknesses that science have not discovered to cure, but such have been cured by prayer through Faith in Jesus Christ. Not every religious person has enough Faith as the profess, but as many as have Faith in Jesus Christ, nothing is impossible, for God can do all things.

I think you are being extremely simplistic. Science and a belief in a God (take your pick) are not necessarily incompatible.
Science is based on the premise that something is able to be seen, and repeated until some rule is able to be applied to it.
Science has the fundemental problem that it will never be able to prove a prime cause (i.e. the universe started with a big bang, and then evolution happened....BUT what caused the big bang??), and is also constrained by the human senses for what it can see, hear etc.
There is also a philosophical argument that no physical process is truly absolutely recreated (refer to Karl Popper), the simple matter that the difference in time between the occurences, also the view that the experience is affected by the viewer.
Science is extremely good at being able to explain the "how" the universe operates; it is not at all good for explaining "why".
A belief in a God fundementally comes down to a question of faith, you cannot prove or disprove the existence of God, and the extent to which people want to trust / rely on the intervention of God is a matter of individual faith.
As Pascal said, the only thing I am certain of is that I am certain of nothing.

Those are orthodox relligious extremists that would go there. The more contemporary thinkers who are religious believe that God gives doctors the talent to save people and to build machines that help them. If it was the way you said they wouldnt even be allowed to drive cars since its not in the Bible and that seems an unnecessarily sarcastic approach to something you dont care for. Maybe they should stop eating too or drinking water, for that matter.

I am not religious but I'm just saying.

there are some theories of religion and science that agree with other for instance several studies have shown that prayer works even if the person being prayed for knew (they reported more ease in managing symptons in illness)

quite a few scientists were christians for their whole lives like einstein and da vinci

also don't put up with nonsense from fundamentalists who claim the earth was made in seven days because back in those days (when the torah was written) days could mean any period of time like thousands or millions of years and each day need not be the same length they most likely vary.

about evoultion........ well how do we know god did not use evoultion himself

I wish to clarify something for you.
I am a Christian. I also believe in and accept science. You are speaking of some fringe lunatics (every religion, even atheism, has a few) who are loud and obnoxious and try to speak for all of us. Actually, I wish they'd just shut up, but that's not gonna happen soon. Too bad. They make all Christians look stupid.
May I put forward the notion that, as God created everything that exists, He also created science? Science is a tool, nothing more nothing less. Why would I not use any tool God places in my hand?
Every really good doctor I've ever met is quick to say that he/she treats, but it is God who heals.
Call me greedy...I want the medication AND the prayers.

Religious people DO accept science...where do these misunderstandings come from. There are a few who do not, but the majority of the major religions DO accept science and do not find evolution to be at odds with God's plan.

God is the creator of all things...he can work through science, through doctors or he can work around them...God gave us dominion over this world and all that is in it. We can use what is here.

When someone is in the hospital and we use surgery and injections to save their lives...it's still all to the glory of God. It is still by his hand.

God expects us to use wisdom, I have always said that science has it's place as you stated, But when science tries so hard to prove evolution They come up with I don't know, I do watch the Discovery & Science channels on TV. & everytime science has try to prove evolution, They at the end say I DON'T KNOW, Men & women did NOT EVOLVED, we were created, As far as the big band, I have no problem with that ideal, But it was GOD that caused the big bang, Now concerning your statement about Christians going to doctors & hospitals,First I want you to Know that Luke in the Bible was a doctor. We have enough common sense, to know God has put in the minds of doctors To help a sick person, A person can break his arm & a doctor can set it, But it is God that heals it, We can have cancer, Doctors can do surgery, But it is God that heals that surgery. Speaking of healing, I know a man From Australia That had cancer so bad, It ate through his stomach & intestines, & was coming out of his body leaving a hole, Yes Doctors done the best they could. They gave him about a few months to live, But now he is cancer free, Do we give thanks to the doctors, Yes, But no doctor can give you a new stomach, only God can do that, Now you may ask how do I know about this man, Well my church is in revival now, & he has flown in from Australia to be in our meetings, free from cancer, Now at the same time while a Christian is in the hospital, we also pray for them, we don't leave everything to the doctor.

Don't take us wrong. We are not imbecils if we are religious. Scientists did not make up penicillin out of nothing; they actually only use natural material created by God. Science only discovers the miracles of world created by God. Christianity is freedom from human obsessions; it releases your sole from slavery of human ignorance. Don’t think humans know all just because we gave name to magnetic force, we still don’t have a clue how this started happening. In 100 years all antibiotics will stop working because viruses and bacteria will become fully resistant. Bird flue appears out of nothing and threatens to wipe out the world. Death is unavoidable, men in white cannot stop it but thank God for giving them brains to prolong our miserable time so we get more time to save our soles. Unfortunately, all people start believing in God only when death comes near.

your assertion that "religious people" don't accept science shows your ignorance and bias/disdain/hatred for those who do not believe as you do. While you do not explain what you mean by religious people, you should know that the Humanist Manifesto declares secularism as a religion with man as the final arbiter of truth.
On the other hand, as a Christian, I accept science as it applies to origins but not in terms of evolution which has absolutely no facts to support it claims.
I would suggest you try to understand Einsteins General Theory of Relativity and the foundation which it laid which lead to the discovery of the creation event we know as the Big Bang which does not conflct with the Genesis account,
Further discoveries of the unified cosmic background microwave radiation which is the trail left behind when matter and energy seperated was discovered by accident by Bell lab technicians and later confirmed as late as 1996 by the COBE satellite confirmed that our universe had a beginning. What this means for naturalistic explanations such as Darwinian evolution is that the time neccessary in order for evolution to be a valid explanation for origins of life is simply not there because science has negated the idea of a steady state universe.
Personally, I think it takes much more faith to believe that consciousness derived from a nonthinking impersonal beginning. Besides that, how do you account for such things as the appreciation for beauty and love in an impersonal beginning. Why do we have flavors like chocolate and strawberry? Wouldn't evolution only give us two flavors to give us a knowledge of what to eat and what not to eat? Why variety? It would seem as if the universe was designed with us in mind as if it knew we were coming.
Show me one......just one.....thats not asking for much is it? One piece of empirical evidence in support of the transitional aspect in evolution of one species evolving into another. Your own example of how a Jack ***/Donkey? can use a computer does not count.
