What that means is that God , in olden times, used the prophets to get His word to the people, but in the last times He sent His own Son to tell us what was on His mind. There are many people who call themselves prophets today, but in my veiwpoint, they are not true prophets. One such so called prophet claimed somehting major would happen on such and such a date , and the day came and went with no major thing happening. False prophets will aboud, the scriptures warn us...so beware. We have the written word of God and anyone coming along telling you "thus says the Lord better be using scripture and not some fancy pancy new declaration he made up in his own mind. Now the gift of prophecy is active in the church but one who prophecies isnt neccesarily a prophet like elijah or jeremiah. Those days are over. The new day has dawned, Jesus, the very Son has spoken now

Ep 4:11,12 And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for edifying of the body of Christ,

The above verse shows cleary the Jesus gives to His present-day church the prophets, apostles, evangelists, pastors and teachers to train and equip believers for the work of ministry to build up the body of Christ. The prophets in the past prophesied about the birth, ministry, life, crucifixion, etc of Jesus. After Jesus has come most of the prophecies in the Old Testament have been fulfilled except those of His second coming. The New Testament prophets will provide personal prophecies to people to confirm God's directions and plans for their lives and prophecies for the ministries of the church and the kingdom of God. There are still prophets now but the nature of prophecies have changed to deal with God's people, the church and the expansion of His kingdom.

God gave the Bible for us to read. Everything is there.

2 Tim. 3:16, 17: “All Scripture is inspired of God and beneficial for teaching, for reproving, for setting things straight, for disciplining in righteousness, that the man of God may be fully competent, completely equipped for every good work.”

Rev. 1:1: “A revelation by Jesus Christ, which God gave him, to show his slaves the things that must shortly take place.”

Bible prophecy explains the meaning of world conditions

Many world leaders acknowledge that mankind is on the brink of disaster. The Bible foretold these conditions long ago; it explains their meaning and what the outcome will be. (2 Tim. 3:1-5; Luke 21:25-31) It tells what we must do in order to survive the impending world destruction, with the opportunity to gain eternal life under righteous conditions here on earth.—Zeph. 2:3; John 17:3; Ps. 37:10, 11, 29.

Below, several more modern translations show that it is common sense to use such and to also use several translations! Then the scripture becomes easy to understand.

Hebrews 1:1At many moments in the past and by many means, God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets; (NJB)

God, who long ago spoke on many occasions and in many ways to our forefathers by means of the prophets,. . . (NW)

In many parts and in many ways long ago the God having spoken to the fathers by the prophets, in last of the days of these spoke to us by a son (Diaglott)

It should be underscored that there was many Christian prophets. Also, the scripture states that "bearing witness about Jesus inspires prophecy."

It means just what it says.....
And Jesus is the last mentioned there in those verses.

There are no modern day prophets.....there's no need for them now

God has revealed Himself to us in the Person of Jesus Christ....who is all the fullness of the Godhead, bodily.
And He has revealed Himself to us through His Word (the written word and Jesus Christ)
