If your question is indeed religious, then it is redundant. If there is a Creator (I call Him Jehovah), then there is a scheme of things that have happened, are happening and are yet to happen.
Simply put, you can't see anything unless you're suppose to see it....therefore whatever you saw exist, you just didn't know it. Scared - yeah, maybe. Disturbed - not really....."...all things work together for the good of them that love God..."

Yes. Being a skeptic by nature I'd make sure the object wasn't something I misinterpreted (by how I viewed it or by a possible hallucination) before I was certain it was "real".
