I've had my tattoo now for about a week now and it's started scabbing pretty nastily. Though, I am taking VERY good care of it and have not been scratching or picking at the scabs.
What I want to know is, is it natural for the "scabs" to look like small pieces of surface ink? Because I have these tiiiny little black specs busy coming off. Also, the tattoo seems to be getting slightly lighter, but nothing dramatic, it's starting to look like a "real" tattoo instead of some fake transfer one (like the ink is finally setting into my skin properly.)
Should I be freaking out??

By all means freak out if you want to, but your tattoo sounds perfectly normal. Every one of my tattoos has scabbed over, and in every case the scab has been coloured to match the ink underneath. It's always deeply tempting to pick at them because you can't quite believe that there's really a tattoo underneath, but you just have to resist the urge!
Like any other scab, they'll probably come off a bit at a time - it sounds like the 'tiiiny little black specks' are the beginning of this process. It's all perfectly normal - if this were any other scab, caused by falling over or whatever, you wouldn't give it a second thought, but it's easy to get paranoid because this is a tattoo and you want to take good care of it. Don't panic - you're taking care of it like you're supposed to.
One other thing - don't be surprised, once the scabs have all come off, if the skin underneath is still rather dry and flaky, and the tattoo therefore doesn't look perfect straightaway. That's normal, too. It'll take a while before you can see it in all its glory!
Enjoy your tattoo, and don't fret about it; it all sounds fine.

Sounds like how my tatoo on the back of my neck did. it scabbed really badly as well, and then pieces of ink stained skin started peeling off.I kept washing it and putting the stuff on it they told me and it turned out great :) I was worried about fading as well as badly as it scabbed over, but it turned out fine.

What you are describing sounds normal to me, from what I remember what I went through with my tattoo (10 years ago) and also my husband had the same thing happen to him when he got his tattoo a few years ago. But I would suggest calling the person who you got the tattoo from, they are the professionals so they would be able to answer your question a lot better.

Nope, what you've described is perfectly natural and nothing to worry about. If you have not been picking at the scabs and have been putting on your ointment (I use Lubriderm), then you and your tattoo are fine.

No... calm down... a week is only the beginning... give it a month... it will continue scabbing... you need to continue washing it (gently), putting anti-bacterial ointment on it, and avoiding the urge to scratch it... there is NOTHING to worry about...

No.
However make sure your putting a very very light film of moisterizer as opposed to going heavy with it.

Not at all, it's normal, just keep the lotion on it and don't irritate it, it sounds like it's healing perfectly.
