What nationality are we talking about here? Does that nationality need a visa for CHE? If yes, he still does. His UK status does not avail him.

Only if his visa is a Shengen visa (you need to verify if Switzerland is a participating country in this program) is he not lilely to need a travel visa into Switzerland. Also, his country of rogin may be on a visa waiver program so I would check that out too. Otherwise, a travel visa would be required. Just call the Swiss Embassy and verify what you need to enter the country.

A Swiss visa is needed to travel to Switzerland if the student visa is only for UK which is not acceptable thereat.
