Someone said that to me lately, and it got me thinking.

I felt because it doesn't bother me as I don't believe it, it shouldn't matter. Then this well educated lovely person said that it is the person who believes in it without question and without evidence, that is the one to be concerned for, as they are committing vilification of the very worst type.

Remember quote the OT and I will quote it right back it you, as with the NT, try something more original. Try to use your own morals and free mind to justify this horrific hate crime. OK you are not committing the crim, but you are worshiping one who will do the toasting!

First of all, lose the "people threaten with hell" phraseology. Just because someone repeats what the bible says, does not make it a "threat" or, as you put it "hate crime". Get off that nonsense. That PC tact is old and worthless. As for the "sensitive" feelings of people who cringe at the reality of such a place, as always, you can pick your final table-either in the smoking or non-smoking section. It's all up to you. As far as worshipping the one "who will do the toasting", wrong again. It's not His fault that such highly "educated and enlightened" people in this modern cesspool of idiots have no common-sense. Saying it's God's fault is like using a lighter to see how full your gas tank was, and then trying to sue the lighter company from the comfort of your bed in the burn center. Duh.

If threatening with hell is the greatest crime known to man, then all the christians will have their places reserved and waiting well in advance.

The notion of hell has been used by the churches for centuries as a means of controlling people and subduing everyone into obeying the laws that people otherwise wouldn't normally obey, and only a few hundred years ago, the Catholic church had instigated a laws saying that no one could ever speak of a thing as "vacuum," (empty void) because that went beyond the notion that god was everywhere, punishable by death.

Christians talk about hell because they believe it is real and they do not want you to go there. If you want to ignore the warning, then we'll leave you alone.

But don't say we are threatening you. We believe it is very real. To us it's not a threat, it's a warning.

If you knew there was a big tsunami coming very soon you would tell everyone to leave, wouldn't you?

Jojo you are completely wrong.

"But the subjects of the kingdom will be thrown outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth."
Matthew 8:12

"If anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire."
Revelation 20:15

Do you often hear weeping and gnashing of teeth in tombs? Do tombs looks like a lake of fire? You are correct to say that sometimes in the Bible, hell (SHEOL ) is the tomb. In the old testament, the authors sometimes used this word to talk about the tomb not hell.

But that is not the only word used to describe hell. "Gehenna" is used by Jesus to describe hell. It was a garbage dump outside Jerusalem where fires were kept burning to consume the garbage. It is also the place where criminals were usually dumped and burned.

If in fact hell is real, and people do end up there, then warning people away from it would not be an act of "hate".

But there are people who display their hatred by using the threat of hell.

So you would have to study more than just the words "You are going to hell" to know whether the person saying them is doing it in an attempt to warn and help (an act of love) or as an act of hate.

I've been lucky I guess because I have never had a problem with christians being threatening about what they believe in. I had a good friend in school who was a devoted christian and she wasn't pushy at all! Neither was any of the other chrtistians I've met in my life. In fact I've be in serious need more than once but I never went without because of christian neighbors or co-workers. It's always been a very positive experience for me and my family to associate with christians. They are very wonderful people! Maybe the people you are running into are young and not very skilled in their deliverence of their message. :)

I can't say it's the worst crime there is..but I think it's the biggest lie there is. ( I always get lots of thumbs down and hate email when I say this here on Yahoo...but here goes!)
"Hell" in the Bible, means the "GRAVE" as you may know, if you know the Bible at all. We all die and go to "Hell..the grave"..so does the Bible actually preach an "everburning hellfire for the wicked" ??? NO! absolutely not! What it does preach is that God doesn't want anyone to perish, so we'll all be given a chance at some point in the future, to follow Christ, and to live forever.
Sooo..whether it's you or the lovely person who believes we'll be tortured in an everburning hellfire, that is a false belief! Challenge the Bible, and prove whether God actually would condemn His children to this torture for eternity!
A hate crime??? No, maybe not, but it's not what God says will happen to His people, so the person who believes this lie, and insists on others believing it, is not telling the truth, as God would want us to, and God wants us to prove all things...so altho it's not a "crime", it sure is a lie!

Try and re-word this a different way and see if it doesn't answer your own question --

Is Warning someone about the dangers of hell the greatest love there is?

Do you understand that it's all in the way a person looks at it?

Actual hate crimes where violence is committed are the worst kinds of hate crimes. But if threatening someone with hell is a hate crime, it's certainly the most annoying one. :)

If I had a nickel for every time someone did that to me, I'd have about oh.... 5 bucks? sweet!

i don't really understand your question. to me telling someone because they don't believe in GOD will go to hell is menial Bullying what right do they have to judge other people? its disgusting and should be ashamed of themselves. and you cant mix up belief in law and God two completely different things. law has some morals in it so does religion but the law is there to protect people. witch doesn't always happen but face it it does a better job then any religion. people do know right from wrong but people like to ignore that fact if they can get away with it and its a sad fact of life.

I agree, that is about the worst thing you can say to somebody. Nobody knows exactly where we will go when we die and what condition a person's heart is in when they die. Only God knows and can judge perfectly by looking at our hearts and our whole lives. The only thing that we can say for certain about anyone is that they have a 100% chance of dying.
