All "Holy Books" are written by human beings. There may be some degree of divine inspiration, but it's filtered through a human brain with it's own cultural and political biases, and then copied and copied and copied, and translated and translated and translated, by human beings. You can find truth in all Holy Books, every one, but they all also contain a lot of other stuff, cultural, historical, and political baggage. Just because a book is "Holy" and contains truth, does not mean it's all true. Just because a book is written by a human being doesn't mean it's all false. Read with wisdom. Read them all -- the Bible, the Koran, the Bagavad Gita, the Dammapada, the Book of the Law, the Egyptian Book of the Dead, etc. -- lots of good and holy inspiration filtered through lots of human brains.

How else are we going to understand about Islam?

I've been reading the Qu'ran now n then over the past few weeks. It's not a lot different than the bible, IMHO. It seems wordier at times and a little "angrier" about the Infidel is the primary difference I've seen.
