People don't want to believe because when they read it they feel condemned. Its cuts through them and reveals how evil they are. A true believe will read it, see how evil they are and repent and beg God for forgiveness.

its a book. its a very good book with very good stories.i feel if the bible can make you a better person overall, go for it.,some people need that type of reinforcement. But its still just a book. just like the big book save allot of lives for people that go to A,A , or any type of self help book. it becomes a problem when people live their lives consumed by a book.
the bible has probably saved allot of lives or in retrospect gave many people an instrument to live a full life. And in the extreme case turn a few into zealots that has cause pain and suffering.how many people have died in the name of religion
do turn the other cheek and so mercy or is it an eye for an eye. simply put Id rather live my life enjoying my family and friends. Although i am afraid of death i accept it . i will not trade my life so i can follow someones doctrine or bible. just be good to people , you don't need a bible for that .

There is a division between what the flesh desires and the spirit needs. They war one against the other.
An example is to say a trust fund becomes available for lets say education or college.
There is now a series of conflicts the flesh says let us have a party and spend all the money and the spirit says let us exercise stewardship over this money and buy an education so I may be able to do well in life.
The bible is a book of discipline and it is hard to follow discipline when you want to party and have a dissipated life style. so rather than say I am wrong people reject the Bible and the God that inspired it.

The Bible was contrived by people making a new religion, how it got such a hold and has so many people brainwashed today is proof of how weak minded people are... Bible bashers have only 2 excuses, God works in mysterious ways or that's the work of the Devil... Pathetic I say, soon the Bible will just a forgotten history book... I use the term loosely, when I say God or the Devil.... BB.. )O(

Because the modern man leans more towards science and reason rather than faith. Christians can't even decide amongst themselves on interpretations of the Bible. I am in the process of reading the Bible (even though I am an atheist), and many parts just seem outdated and fictional to me. Maybe the creation story would have seemed like a good explanation, say, a few hundred years ago, but now it just seems primitive.

For one, the Bible was written by man. Yes that's right I said it. It was written by man. And what is man prone to do? I'll take make mistakes for $100 Alex.
Not to mention, along comes the Council of Nicea....they were trying to decide just how "divine" Jesus was. So, they went through hundreds of gospels and picked the very few that fit what they were looking for.
The Bible may have great moral stories in it, but how many people do YOU know that follow it word for word? I bet not many, if any at all. Most of them take out what suits their needs and run with it. The book itself is nothing more than an instrument of control. Always has been, always will be.

It goes way back in translation.
What I find hard to believe is that some folks will read a history book of secular origin and believe every word.

There is no problem with Bible teachings, the problem lies with human teachings humans teach their own philosophies and traditions rather than what the Bible teaches.

Human nature says people attack what they can't understand.
Past that, if one believes any one of the "stories," it lends credence to the rest of them, including the one about Jesus dying for our sins. Belief in that leads most to a crisis of conscious, and a necessity to make a decision (to accept it or not).
Many people have been misled & flat-out lied to about what the Bible does & doesn't say. Most don't care to find out for themselves - too much work in their otherwise busy lives. Those who do make the effort are generally rewarded with a new understanding.
"Man wrote it. Why should I follow it?" If these people knew for a fact that God Himself came down & penned it with His own hand, they still wouldn't want to follow it.

Why would people "live by the words" of a book that is so obviously false to its core?
You're not making any sense here.

It is so unbelieveably contradictory from o.t. to n.t. First you start out with a dictator god who is demanding, demeaning and hyper-critical making up hundreds of really strict rules that nobody can follow. Then he threatens all kinds of horrible consequences when we fail, which is inevitable. Does this really sound like the forgiving, loving, patient GOD that Jesus came to declare to us? Be born of the spirit of truth and your impossible position on what is inspired scripture wil improve dramatically
