Every word correct, great post
And in response to the idiot, thank you for saving our asses in 1941, after you had become rich from watching the war from your armchairs since 1939 by selling arms, food for extortionate prices. The only reason you came into WW2 is when a few Nips got past your great defense's and bombed a Japanese Enclave. I Thank You

The cause of the American War for Independence was complicated but is often stated as "Taxation without representation." Many have seen this as a tax issue. There were, in fact, many taxes imposed on the American colonies in order to finance the expense of protecting the colonies along with the expense of the French and Indian Wars. The operative part of the phrase is not, however, taxation, but representation. The freemen of America were refusing to accept the imposition of the taxes because they, as colonists, had no representation in the British Parliament. To have accepted the taxes was tantamount to acknowledging that they were less than freemen. Each of the colonies had some form of representative government. The colonies had practiced some form of participatory democracy for most of their history. However, there was no American representation in Parliament and that allowed Parliament to impose its will without the consent of the governed in America. The involvement of the French Army was limited. The involvement of European financing, particularly from the Netherlands, was more critical to sustaining the revolution. The closing moments of the war at Yorktown were probably influenced more by the participation of the French Navy rather than the French Army. The French Navy helped to block British maneuvers at Yorktown and made surrender of the British Army there the best option for the British General.

You're quite the bigot, aren't you? "Inbred Yanks"? Give me a break. The United States is more genetically diverse than wherever the hell you're from in the UK. My ancestors fought in the American Revolution. They were educated people of means. Trace back your ancestors three hundred years. I'd love to find out what un-noteworthy things they were doing.
Yes, the American colonists received help, and the help was crucical, but you're exaggerating and flat-out lying about most of it. During most the war, the French covertly supplied resources, but Americans were responsible for the bulk of the fighting. The British also received outside help. The colonists managed to push the English out of the New England and mid-Atlantic colonies, so the last leg of the war was really in the Chesapeake and southern states, where patriots and loyalists were more evenly split.
You're also misremembering why the English left. Great Britain's colonial possessions in North America were, well, invaluable. The natural resources, the untaxed populace - there was much wealth to be made. Parliament was intent to not surrender to the colonists' demands quite so easily. The American colonists attempted to over a decade to resolve the matter without going to war.
The American Revolution occurred precisely because the English decided after over one hundred years of salutary neglect to play a much more active role in the affairs of its colonial subjects in North America. So, you're kind of ridiculous to say the war ended because the English "couldn't be bothered " to stick around. Quite the opposite. The war started because the English could NOT leave the colonists alone.
Also, it's not called "The Forgotten War." It's called the War of 1812, sometimes known as "Mr. Madison's War." Every American public school student studies the war at one point, so what are you talking about exactly?

We didnt even have a standing army before 1812, in the war of 1812, not of 1814.
and yes, I do know you guys burned the white house down in 1814.
We didnt have any enemies before you guys started attacking out civilian ships and enslaving the crews. Bet you didnt know about that did you? Did you know that the British never stopped attacking the Americans, So the war of 1812 was just a continuation.
We didnt even have a standing army until after the war. The British were fighting a bunch of farmers with rifles. Not something to be proud of.

Whatever makes you feel better sparky.
Bottom line up front:
You couldn't hold on to us and had to let us go because you were beaten and it ended the British Empire as you knew it.
All that being said, without the British influence, the US wouldn't be the power that it has been and for that, we should thank you.

As long as the English need a sign on the continental side of the Chunnel to tell them which side of the road to drive on, they don't have any room to call anyone "backward".

Isn't it ironic that this backward, inbred country of only 231 years, not only kicked your imperialistic ***, but has made you into our personal lap dog. We may be "backward', in your opinion, but you try and imitate us every chance you get. Don't worry and don't envy. Who knows someday we may give you "official" colonial status, in the mean time you'll have to settle for lap-dog.
