I think that instead of having an xx or xy arrangement they only have a single x chromosome

And they usually show female characteristics.

Female. To be male a Y must be present. However gender confusion issues can result as a single X may not have female body types and are sterile- depending on the quantity of sex hormones these can lead to "masculine" and "feminine" feelings

Turner syndrome happens when there is only one sex chromosome, an X. The person is female.
