It's not only the Christians who fear death and mourn the dead, but I understand your question.
Normally, they shouldn't, but the fear of death is an instinct stronger than faith, in the majority of the cases (there were, there are and there will always be Christians whose faith is stronger than death), and they mourn their dead just because, like any other human being, regardless of his/her religion, they're feeling sorry for themselves.

A true Christian does not fear death, and why do we morn the dead? We morn mostly for ourselves, we will miss the person we don't want them to leave us, but in the end we do know they are in a better place, a place where they can rest, no more death, sorrow, sickness, sin or worries.
And that gives us even more reason to stay true to the Lord Jesus so that we can see them and be with them again in eternity.

As a Christian, I do not fear death because I know I will end up in the presence of the Lord. But the act of dying is what is not appealing. No one wants to go through the act of dying, it brings on a natural fear. If someone were to begin knifing you, I'm quite sure you would be terrified. It's a normal reaction.
I know that those who believe in Jesus Christ and have accepted Him as their Savior will be with Him when they die. And I know that I will see them again. But while I am yet alive, it's their presence in my life that will be missed. Although I am in Christ, I still live here on Earth, and I am a mortal human being. And when we lose the presence of someone we love, of course we will mourn.
Did Jesus not mourn over the death of Lazarus? Did He not shed tears? Even Jesus, in His mortal body, mourned for the dead.
Hope this answers your question.

I do not fear death at all. I do fear the sickness which may go on for a time. We mourn because we know we will not see that person for a time but Joy comes in the morning. Oh death where is thy sting? It has been swallowed up in victory!

With no disrespect, this is a pretty dumb question... You morn there earthly body, there presence & there comfort they may have provided.
And to answer your response about Horus.... your link proves nothing. You still have not shown where I could read any text that proves any of your comparisons. I could make the same comparisons to Hitler.
That only means that you are blindly passing along info yourself. You could continue passing on unsupstantiated information or maybe try reading the Egyption book of the dead / Papyrus of ani for yourself. It is rather interesting material.
Please show me where Horus' mother was Mari and his host father was Jo-Seph...... Just for starts
.... Why dosn't my God do away with evil???
What would mankind learn from that. What would be of our mind and soul if we couldn't make choices?
Evil comes from everything that exists... Everything has an opposite. You being of science should know that. You can make something from nothing. Think about this, everything consists of matter & it has an opposite, that is called anti-matter. The most simpilist form of everything itself.
Without evil we would have no inner ability to know what was moral and what wasn't. In a sense we would all be single cell orginisms with no way for advancement, no chance to evolve.
Please read the book of Ecclesiastes... you may find a few answers. Although I do not take the bible word for word seeing that there would be no possible way to write down everything that was quoted from someone in biblical times since there were no such thing as a stenographer, short hand or recorders to insure what was said could accurately be recorded in text.
BTW... yes I believe God created science & I belong to no denomination. I take a little bit of each that helps me in my own life. I can, with an open mind, mix both science & religion.

1. the search function is there for a reason
2. Christians, real ones, are not afraid of death, but mourn the dead anyway. they don't go wacko or give too much into mourning, as they know that the departed is in a better place, but still, they are people, and people miss other people when they go away (specially permanently)

The fear of death is unfounded, yet natural. No one really wants to die because we've become so used to living. And it's not that we feel bad for the person who had died if they are going to heaven, it's that we miss the fact that they will be there in our everyday life. Mourning is a way to make yourself feel better, none of us actually believe it will bring the person back, it's to let out our grief for losing a loved one.

I am a Christian, and I don't fear death!
I have nothing to fear, for God is with me!
I have eternal life through Jesus Christ, so I have nothing to fear. It's only this body will die - I will go to be with the Lord, which is far far better.

Christians miss them of course just as anyone. We know however that while on earth if they believed in Jesus and have salvation by the grace of God, they are in heaven with him. So, in that sense we are happy about that and that we will see them again when we get there ourselves.
Also, most Christians likely mourn those who die and have not accepted Jesus as their personal Lord and saviour, because this means they are departed from God forever. We greatly wish they had but it was their choice to deny him countless times before death, therefore it's no ones fault but theirs. Still so very horrificly sad. But we will no longer know this in heaven as Jesus will wipe it from our memories.

Hmmm.. i think a good christian isn't afraid of dying. in fact, a good christian might want to die because he/she is certain that there is a heaven and that he/she is sure to go there.
for the mourning part, well i think that existence here on earth is really important to us and seeing a person die is really hard. and some others have this mentality that they may not see that person ever again.
wehehehehe nice try furax!
