The 70 times 7 in regards to forgiveness applies to us. It is WE who must forgive those who sin against us.
It does not refer to Jehovah God.
He does forgive in a large way, but only if we repent.
(2 Peter 2:4-5) Certainly if God did not hold back from punishing the angels that sinned, but, by throwing them into Tar′ta·rus, delivered them to pits of dense darkness to be reserved for judgment; 5 and he did not hold back from punishing an ancient world, but kept Noah, a preacher of righteousness, safe with seven others when he brought a deluge upon a world of ungodly people;

God does not forgive unconditionally.
He expects a certain standard.

Jesus said God forgives 70 times 7 which means there is no limit to his forgiveness. Genesis said God created the world in 6 days and rested on the 7th. 7 was a number that means completion.
70 times 7 meant infinite.

The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak. This is a common battle between the flesh and the spirit. The only way to overcome is by getting in the Word of God and allowing God to transform the thoughts of the mind to the thoughts of Christ.
Read Philippians 4:8. The more we think with the mind of Christ, the less power sin will have over us. Whichever way you look at it, deliverance comes from God and not by our will or by our might, but by His Spirit.

The Good Lord does forgive our sins. Your friend needs to pray and ask God for strength and guidance.

He will forgive as long as there is faith. I think Jesus said 70 times 70. Of course, that's not literal.

But here is a question for your friend; what does he focus on more, God or the sin?

Here's one for you:
Is he focusing on sin because his friends keep bringing it up?

We all have sins like that in some way or another, some of us have them that are more severe, some are more noticeable. The only sin that can't be forgiven is the refusal to accept Jesus as Savior and Lord. So yes, so long as they try as much as they can, as hard as they can to not do it again and resist being tempted as long as possible, I think they can be forgiven if they ask for it. At the times you are tempted, you should pray, and hard.

yes, and no, the bible says on one hand if a person sins after he has tasted the fruits of the spirit, he will be unable to renew himself again unto God. however, Jesus himself said if a person asks to be forgiven a person should be forgiven 70 times 70 times. there seems to be a contradiction in terms of salvation. here. but he makes it clear later on, we are forgiven if we ask for it and "Forsake" sin THEN, he is just and faithful for forgive. us. we are saved by grace and the only ONEs that are not saved (LOST) are the sons of perdition. the different degrees of salvation are discussed more fully in the Revelations and Prophecies found in the LDS church. in some respects, daily repentance is called an "abomination" but exaltation and glory is given to those people who become sanctified and truly become converted and "born again" the bible defines being born again, simply, as being born of water and of the spirit. however, there are several degrees described in what it means to be born again, ultimately being born again means a person does not "sin" anymore. basically it is also used as in simply reading the scriptures. so the bible says yes, and the bible says NO.

yes, as long as he asks for forgiveness. but also he needs to take responsibility and actually remove himself from situations that make him fall back into his sinful ways. if he truly feels bad about it, he wouldnt keep doing it over and over agian.
