If your child is three and still isn't talking you should talk to your dr. I was worried when my son wasn;t talking at 18 months b/c his sister was using sentences before the age of one. Dr said that by 2 a toddler should know 20-50 words. Not that they always use them

My niece is 2 (3 in December) and she can make sentences and talk to you, tell you exactly what she wants, sing the abc's count to 20 and some other things. Hell, if my baby wasn't talking by 1 and half....I'd be worried....no offense every baby I know started talking from the beginning and can talk before they are 3!

Always check with your doctor about anything you read here, but that said, here's a true story about my father.
My dad did not say word until he was four, that is FOUR. My grandmother was very worried about him, and one day she was out on the front porch talking about it to some of her friends. My dad walked by and heard her say she didn't think he could talk. He walked out on the porch, and announced, "I can too talk!" Nearly giving my grandmother a heart attack.
My dad never was much of a conversationalist, but he was one of the smartest engineers there ever was. Good luck.

my sister apparently didn't speak until she was 3, she's just a quiet person and mostly listens. But a friend of mine has a kid that has a disease, or a disorder where it's difficult to interact with other people. I forget the name of it, but they found out when he didn't speak at the age of four.

When my daughter was one year, one month old, she started talking in full, articulate, well formed sentences.

We were AMAZED!!

I took her to have her IQ tested.

She failed terribly!

They showed her pictures and asked her to identfy them:

A Trackor

An Oxen

The Leaning Tower of Pizza

SHE WAS ONE YEAR OLD!!! Are they crazy?

The tester was just mad bacause my One year old was smater than hers!!

They should be talking by age three, you should get them checked out by a speech therapist.
