They used one donated cornea to restore sight to three patients with corneal opacities. Normally when eyes are donated, the cornea is transplanted to replace the opacified cornea of a visually impaired person. One cornea goes to one recipient. The AIIMS Ophthalmologists demonstrated that it is possible to split the graft and use it for more than one recipient under certain circumstances. This obviously has vital consequences for those waiting for a corneal transplant.
