Our withdrawal will be death sentence for Iraqis who supported and voted for a free democratic constitutional government. Iran will move in and crush the Sunnis. They will probably go after the Kurds too. Without a force to tie down their forces, al qaeda and other terror groups would plot and train and start carrying their campaign of Jihad to Europe and then to the US. The biggest irony would be the howls for US help from the Sunni Arab nations as Iran grew strong and became a threat to them.

If we pull out of Iraq, we're left with exactly the same kinds of protection from terrorists we've had all along. The war in Iraq is doing nothing to protect us from terrorists,
We're protected from terrorists by the fact that the police and intelligence agencies are aware of the problem and are investigating the leads that they have, period.
That is all that's required. Bush's war is not necessary. Bush's expansion of police powers is not necessary.
If Bush had been cognizant of the basic situation confronting his office in 2001 as it was presented to him by the outgoing administration, if he had used the police, the intelligence agencies, and the legal authority that he had available to him at the time, instead of wacking off the weeds in Crawford for nine months, I think it's quite likely 911 would never have happened in the first place.

This question is more opinion-based than factual, and I don't claim to have any significant input, though at this point, I agree the US and Iraq are in a quagmire, and highly doubt there is one resolution which will satisfy all ends.
However, I merely wanted to point out- the Taliban is a problem in Afghanistan, not Iraq.

We are really protecting the people arent we?
Our presence in IRAQ has only allowed Alqueda todo somethign they hadnt done until after we got into IRAQ -- organize themself as a presence in IRAQ.
And how many have left their homes in IRAQ?
how many hundreds of thousands if not millions now?
And how many have died since we got there.
I find it so hard to believe that republicans dont keep asking such questions because their only defense to this fialed policy is to try attacking with this type of nonsense.
WE HAVE TRIED!
Had we better leadership we would have helped IRAQ stabalize themselves by now -- but as everyone should know, for 3 years nothign really happened diplomatically.
Not that any real results are being done after 4 years.
But we have tried our best -- to the point we are sacrificing our own security in america to keep our military in IRAQ and Afganistan.
We have lost 3200 soldiers, 25000+ casualties, how many billions?
And yet we are suppose to believe we should stay and keep trying to pretect a country where its own government doesnt really want peace between its groups?
this has got to be on of the dumbest questions asked.

The SAME ones there are now; NONE. Does it REALLY look like the Iraqi people are being "protected" by anyone- now??! And if they ARE, then why are most of them so eager for us to leave? We are doing nothing but spinning our wheels and providing "target practice" for the private Militias in Iraq. The sooner we get out- the sooner that country will find its OWN level of "security". -All we're doing is delaying the inevitable.
