In a speech in Turkey, found: http://www.vatican.va/holy_father/benedict_xvi/speeches/2006/november/documents/hf_ben-xvi_spe_20061128_pres-religious-affairs_en.html
Pope Benedict quotes Pope Gregory VII in 1076 saying the following about Christianity and Islam:
“because we believe in one God, albeit in a different manner, and because we praise him and worship him every day as the Creator and Ruler of the world.”
I'm not commenting on the quote, but can anyone find a site for the original quote... I need to reference it!! Thanks

Unfortunately the only place I could find this was on a website that claims a different Pope.

Here is a link to the letter of Pope Saint Gregory the Great To Anazir, King of Mauritania, on the Maintenance of Friendly Relations: http://www.vaticaninexile.com/PopesCouncils/GregoryVIItoKingMauritania.html

You might try the book "The correspondence of Pope Gregory VII, selected letters from the Registrum" by Ephraim Emerton

With love in Christ.

You will also find this kind of language in Vatican II....

Second Vatican Council, Lumen Gentium 16, November 21, 1964: “…The plan of salvation also includes those who acknowledge the Creator, in the first place amongst whom are the Muslims; these profess to hold the faith of Abraham, and together with us they adore the one, merciful God, mankind’s judge on the last day…”

However, this is not what Scripture tells us.

You will probably not be able to find it easily or on the Internet. It may have been just some part of another book or some footnote. That often happens. You might ask a reference librarian at a Catholic college if there is one near you. Or write to one the Internet. Try asking at St. Johns Abbey, Collegeville, MN. Good luck.

In Islam God does not torture u for leaving, but it is a sin for Leaving Islam as the Koran has never been changed, Koran has beautiful messages, wisdom, peace , tolerance, keeps you in the straight path so if one was to leave it is like leacing something good and being ignorant & rejection of what put u here in the first place, but Islam does NOT say torture a person for leaving but ALLAH will decide their outcome come day of Judgement, if something tells u to be good and u respect it & then u leave it its like ur rejecting GOD or turning to something which has been changed many times, but leaving something which teaches ur peace is like u wanting to turn to evil.

Well from the Qu'ran

29:46 And do not dispute with the followers of the Book except by what is best, except those of them who act unjustly, and say: We believe in that which has been revealed to us and revealed to you, and our God and your God is One, and to Him do we submit.

I also know from the Catechism of the Catholic Church #841

"The Church's relationship with the Muslims. "The plan of salvation also includes those who acknowledge the Creator, in the first place amongst whom are the Muslims; these profess to hold the faith of Abraham, and together with us they adore the one, merciful God, mankind's judge on the last day." (CCC 841).

No luck so far. Gragory was apparently making nice with an emir who was helping out with a local ordination dispute.

Benedict was apparently quoting John Paul II as well:

Muslims and Christian don't worship the same thing, when you read the OT and NT God is consistent but when you read the Islamic Quran God turns into a tyrant sending anyone who disagrees with him into hell fire where he'll personally torture you. So no we Christians don't share the same God as the Muslims do.

As I recall he was fidgeting and said..."man who goes to bed with itchy butt wakes up with stinky finger" in a matter of fact sort of way.
