To the victor goes the spoils...works that way with fame, too.

Why do some people regard the "Bishop of Rome" as the head of Christ's Church, when those "bishops" have led to the murders of over 100,000,000 people???...same reason as above. He who wins the battles, writes the history books in his favor.

Well, some of the history regarding the Exodus is questionable.

Additionally, the Semitic people ruled Egypt and were the pharoahs for a significant period in Egyptian history. They conquered Egypt and ruled it as their own. Even after their reign ended, they continued to have power and influence.

One can not judge all of Egyptian history on the basis of one incident either. Egyptian history stretches back thousands of years. It would be like saying that the Anisazi ate people at one point in their history, so we shouldn't glorify American culture. Heck, Valentine's Day originated from a tradition in Rome when young men would run around clad in nothing but a blood-soaked goatskin and rub their bloody goatskin-covered genitals on young women to bless them. Why do we glorify this holiday, Roman culture, Italy, etc.? It probably has something to do with it being one point in history and one aspect of the culture.

Although the Egyptians certainly did bad things, they also did some pretty amazing things. Despite what Hollywood depicts, the pyramids were not built by slaves, but by well-paid, well-educated craftsmen. It was an engineering marvel. The Egyptians wrote down one of the earliest moral codes, a set of rules on how to get into the afterlife which included such things as "Not have I killed", "Not have I stolen", "Not have I born false witness", and many other things. Many historians believe this to be the origin of the Ten Commandments. The Egyptians began traditions such as wedding rings, shaving armpits, gave women the first property rights in recorded history, had effective birth control methods, and had gigantic ocean-faring ships which they could disassemble and carry over land, only recently discovered. They really did accomplish some pretty astounding feats.

Of course, you can always be safe and not glorify anything that could be seen as anti-semitic. Don't drive a Volkswagon or a Ford, as those cars were created for the kings of anti-semitism. Don't go to a Lutheran Church, because Martin Luther preached about burning down synagogues and killing rabbis. Actually, all of Protestant faith should probably be avoid on these grounds. Let's see, an American arch-bishop preached during the holocaust that Jews were evil and should not be permitted into our country, so Catholicism in America should be avoided. Oh wait, there's a picture of Hitler with a Pope...perhaps all of Catholicism.

One really must look at the whole picture, although one can also glorify the good aspects and not the bad of any individual or culture.

So because Bush has people being killed because they aren't Christian we should all hate Christians right? We should hate Germans because of the Jewish people that some killed? You can't say that all Egypt is bad because of some thing that one did. Are all Muslims bad because a select few killed many people here in the US? No. And to the one that says that Jewish people built the pyramids in Egypt, you have it wrong. They have found proof that it was the Egyptians that built them. Get over the fact that not all your stories in that book are the truth. The king that they say was ruler at the time of the pyramids being built by Jewish people was Pharaoh long before that.

This is absurd.

The Crusades killed many a Muslim (along with many others along the way) so by "supporting the troops" in Iraq are we glorifying the Crusades? Since Hitler was a Christian, are we not also glorifying Nazism? If we're glorifying Nazism, that means we're glorifying the ancient Egyptians who killed Jewish babies which was presumably the will of God.

Isn't that like glorifying the will of god??????

Remember that the truth is in the eyes of the beholder.

Pancho Villa is a bandit to the US and a hero in Mexico.
To Spaniards, colonization of Mexico was a favor; that is not the impression of Mexicans.
9/11 was a day of mourn for Americans and many other countries; for several anti-americans it was triumph.
In 1960's, many people saw Martin Luther King as someone who must have been killed.
In 1960s-1970s, teachers were allowed to spank kids, god forvide them to do it nowadays.
During Hitler's time, Nazi youth really believed in Hitler's actions and ideology.

If you think about it, the piramids of Tenochtitlan were full of human sacrifices; during the construction of the great wall and the pyramids of Egypt, slaves were used during the construction and, often-times, those construction were stained with the blood of the slaves; the coliseum had a blood bath from the gladiators; if we go thru history, we will find many more examples like those.

My recommendations, just enjoy them

There was more to it than killing Jewish babies. We admire the pyramids because it's a mystery how they were able to create them. Many believe that the Egyptians had help from aliens. The pyramids also hold lots of secrets and treasures that have yet to be uncovered. It's more like fascination rather than glorification.

I don't think thats so.

that would be like saying that celebrating the 4th of july is glorifying the bombing of hiroshima and nagasaki... its just not that direct orsimple.

and I'm Jewish!

remember also that there were different pharaohs and dynastys and whatnot. some good, some bad. some really good, some really bad. the accomplishments and culture of Ancient Egypt are part of human history, Good AND Bad.

Unless I am mistaken, there was ONE Pharoah who ordered that killing. So if that's true then it would be like judging all German people for there being Nazis.

Besides, God had one of those pyramids built. It wasn't the Egyptians. It happens to be the largest pyramid, the most perfect pyramid, and the most mysterious pyramid, even to this day.

The first born is not babies, And that was to make the brutal Egyptians let the Slaves go to worship their God, for the Egyptians were throwing their babies in the Nile River, and drowning them.
