Two nations, USA and USSR, are poised with hundreds of nuclear weapons and dozens of fail-safe processes in case the other country fires "the" bomb.

A false signal sets in motion the USA to attack the USSR but is caught in time and all of the bombers are recalled except for one that is damaged by enemy fire; the can't be contacted.

The USA and USSR cooperate with each other trying to shoot this B52 down but are unable to find it. In the end the USA president and general decide, what the he*l, when the USSR is bombed they will fire back so well just go ahead and hit them while the think we are cooperating. The bomber dumps it's bomb (the other one is stuck) and the captain (Slim Pickens) rides it to the ground. BOOM! Everybody starts launching and that's it for everyone.
