Yosemite park
Another place is Isle Royal in Lake Superior. VERY serene. I dont know if google earth has it but you can only really go there a couple months out of the year because of the temp. I think the average high is like 80 degrees in "summer"

There is a wonderful region called the Swan Valley in western Montana. The valley follows the Swan river as it runs between Missoula and Kalispel. Very sparsely populated, incredibly beautiful, totally off the beaten path.

It depends on your idea of Serene. For me it's Upper Crystal Lake which is located in southern colorado. Very few, if any people are there, and the peak of the mountian backs the lake. The veiw is amazing.

Yosemite is Yosemighty nice, but probably the most serene is somewhere you'll never find, and nobody ever visits. That's what would make it so serene.
