Hi, my name as entered in the passport is Axxx Bxxx Cxxx, because the clerk in the chennai passport office didn't care to look at the order of names as I gave it on the application. The correct order should be Axxx Cxxx Bxxx. I didn't get this changed though it happened 8 years ago because it wasn't important in India. Now, after being in the US for 5 years, I find it a big hassle. Is there a way to get it changed in my passport to the correct order ? What is the procedure to do this ? Is this classified as "name change" ? Thanks in advance for your replies!

In this case the technical procedure to rectify this issue is “change of name”. I believe you are currently residing in US.

Visit the below mentioned link for more details, I hope it will help.

Good luck

You have to get a new passport and be able to support the name change.

The problem is that you can invert the first and second name.

If you were john Jacob Smith and want to be Jacob John Smith, that's find. But you are changing the last name, so you want to be known as John Smith Jacob and that won't fly.

(I assume this in an Indian passport, right?)

Go to the counsulate with evidence of the proper order and have them change it there
